This semester, we are doing a jazz trio at school: sax, guitar, and bass. I started playing my X-500, but at home I’d practice on my X-150. I was loving the feel and sound of the old girl, and brought her in to school for today’s rehearsal. Aside from the lightness (fully hollow Hoboken vs. semi-hollow late Westerly), the sound was just so much woodier, in a good way. The odd thing was, a chord in the cutaway that wouldn’t work on the X-500 was a piece of cake on the X-150. Same fret join, same cutaway, but the body depth and neck carve just worked better.
Now, I’ll pair the ‘60 X-150 with the ‘60 99J for the concert.
