Now playing/streaming on WXPN are the "2021 All-Time Greatest Albums".

Just happened to tune my office receiver to XPN (we're about 1/4 mile from their studio), and they're playing Les McCann's "Compared to What". One of my favorite tunes, so its off to a good start.

Which was immediately followed by Judas Priest's "Living After Midnight". I love the juxtapositions that happen.

McDaniel's tune is one of the most covered, ever, and not always for the best.

McCann and Harris's cover is great and is probably the defining version of the song, one that puts most others to shame.

I like Dee Dee Bridgewater's take on it, too. The funk is given a bit of a Latin feel.

This getting close to the end. Once they hit the top 10, they start playing the entire album.

Fascinating playlist:

And more reinforcement that the '70's were a GREAT decade for music (or the poll was heavily skewed to geezer/geezettes, which is a plausible explanation):

What a confusing show title! Greatest all-time hits 2021? It's either greatest 2021 hits or greatest all-time hits. It can't be both.

At least I hope not. If all the greatest hits came out in 2021, I'm missing the good stuff!

Yup! Of course it's skewed. It's skewed to the station's listeners.

It's easy to Google most-popular anything. The station isn't Googling. It's polling its listeners. Which makes more sense for them, because they about care how many people listen. Plus, audience participation builds loyalty. But the poll doesn't tell anyone anything about what the greatest albums of all time are - or whether "greatest" even means anything.

In this poll, it doesn't.
