I'm looking for a Guild Bigsby, ideally an older one, but recent would be fine too. If you've got one to sell, please let me know! You can email me at johncorth@yahoo.com.

Oh-oh, John, never a good idea to introduce yourself by asking for something of the members. Best to announce your presence by telling us about yourself, what brought you hear, what you might need a Guild Bigsby for, that kind of thing.

Fair enough. In my haste and enthusiasm, I must have forgotten to consult with my copy of How to Behave in Society. In my defense, I wasn't really asking for something. I was offering money to anyone with a spare Bigsby.

I'm John. I'm 35, married to a lovely gal and have one daughter. I play in a band that does late 50's to mid 60's rock and roll, mostly British Invasion. I'm an Aries. I hail from Madison, Wisconsin.

I'm a Gretsch and Vox guy and incorrigible gear flipper. For years, I've gone through guitars and amps like water. I don't collect them. I rarely have more than one or two, but I'm fickle. At the moment, I have one guitar and one amp, a '53 Gretsch Duo Jet and '64 Vox AC30:

That guitar and amp have been my mainstays for a while now, but I'm constantly on the lookout for a #2 guitar that brings something different to the table. I've struggled with Rickenbackers, Gibsons, Fenders, etc., and always find reasons to dislike them. I've never owned a Guild or had an opportunity to play a vintage one, but everything I've read about them leads me to believe that they offer exactly what I'm looking for. And I'm a regular at the Gretsch Pages, and there seems to be a lot of love for Guild among the Gretsch crowd, so that's another endorsement.

So, I'm in the process of buying a really nice '62 T-100DP. It seems like the kind of guitar I would really get along with, but I can't live without a Bigsby.

So that brings me to Let's Talk Guild. Once I have a Guild, and a Bigsby, I pledge to be a contributing member of this wonderful fraternity.

So....if anybody has a spare Guild Bigsby to sell, preferably for much less than $1,000,000, please feel free to contact me at your convenience.

Hey John, good to meet you!

I too, am a Vox guy and I'm incorrigible in many things-- mostly in buying guitars & amps I have neither the room nor the money for!

I have a '59 T-100 that I've recently restored to something like original spec (you can see the transformation here: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=6331 new pics are on page 2).

I do actually have a Guildsby from my '98 Starfire that I might be persuaded to sell. I took it off as an experiment and the improvement in tone was enough to make me never go back. My advice if you want to put one on your new T-100 would be to make sure you can get sufficient breakover angle based on the height of the bridge (I've forgotten what that is, but I'm sure someone here can chime in). I had a '64 SF that someone had put a Bisgby on and the breakover angle was next to nothing so it sounded terrible! If I recall, I sold that Guildsby to Hans here for something like $250.

So if you're interested in a '98 model (with a nice patina), pm me and I can send you a pic...

Chrisb, thanks for the offer. I may take you up on that. It sounds like I may want to hold off until I can get a better assessment of the neck angle. I can eyeball a Gretsch from a mile away and know if the neck set is too shallow for a Bigsby, but not so with a Guild. Just so I can figure out where the string bar will land, the dimensions of a Guildsby are the same as a B6, not B3, right?
FWIW, I don't think a Bigsby ever improves tone over a fixed trapeze type. You're almost always guaranteed a weaker break angle, but in this case I guess I have to figure out whethere there's going to be any break angle once it's Bigsbified. And this guitar is way too nice to consider a B7 type with the tension bar. We'll see...

I'm not a stickler for such things, but another newbie got taken out behind the woodshed for a similiar transgression, and I thought I would spare you that experience. Welcome aboard. Love your Duo Jet. I see a little pink coating on the D string near the tuning peg. Do you have DR strings on there and the coating wore off. The '81 X-82 Nova that I bought on Craigslist has pink DR coated strings. I can't seem to get used to them.

Nope, those are red silk ends on Thomastik Infeld Jazz Swing flatwounds, the only flats I like. I've never seen those pink DR's before. I think they might look a little out of place on a 50's Gretsch. :D Now, orange strings...

Thomastiks are THE BEST strings available anywhere! Tho I'm newly infatuated with Newtones for my acoustics.... will have to try their electric strings soon. Similar handmade, round-core, old-fashioned quality, but a bit less dosh.

And the strings come over the bar on my Guildsby at about 5/8" from the body.

afire,

As they say in France, Willkommen.

Guildsbys come up on ebay every few months or so. They usually go for way over $200.

And Thunder was just trying to avoid a mistake made by a couple of old members, not by new ones. We oldies need to realize that newbs often come here because they just got a Guild or are thinking of buying or selling one, and that's good for us veterans.
