Finally installed an AprilAire whole house ductless humidifier, which will hopefully obviate the need for a room humidifier that needs to be refilled, cleaned, etc.

The unit is fed directly from the water line, and it is vaporized and travels up to a fan unit that then emits the vapor through a vent.

There is also a pump that pumps any excess water to the waste line

My guitar room is at the top of the stairs to the left.

There is also a separate humidistat/controller installed nearby to set the desired humidity level.

When the system went online last night the humidity level throughout the house was about 32%. It had not changed as of this morning, even though I set the controller at 50%.

But now the guitar room is at 45%, and the other rooms are in the mid to high 30% range. So far so good.

I bought the SensorPush system (after hearing about it from GAD) and have a sensor in the guitar room, and several other rooms in the house. Very cool.

After a few days of operation and a few hiccups, the system seems to be working out great.

At first, the controller read 30% humidity but was operating full blast, to the point where the humidity reached over 75% upstairs, and over 55% on the first floor.

Also, the mist was condensing on the banister and wall directly across from the fan box.

But now the controller seems to be accurate (as confirmed by the SensorPush sensors), and I started running the HVAC fan constantly, so as to better circulate the air throughout the house, and to suck the mist into the return, which is right above the fan box.

Now I am incrementally increasing the humidity level 1% at a time. Right now the guitar room is reading 43%.

If all continues as planned, the guitars will be permitted to roam the house freely.

I really need to keep the central A/C fan running at all times.

Here’s what happened when its 12 hour cycle ended:

When the fan stopped around 9:00 a.m., the humidity went from 45% to over 80% in just 2 hours, peaking at 85%.

When I got the SensorPush alert and remotely turned the fan back on around 3:15, the level went down below 50% in about one hour.

I then discovered settings in the Nest app that allow me to keep the fan running continuously, instead of activating it every 12 hours, which is what I was doing.

For some reason, the deleted sentry gun scenes from Aliens popped into my head when I read this.

Go to 1:30 and 2:30, if you don't get the reference.

Stay off my lawn!

We're between houses, e.g. renting. We bought this as a stopgap. It was a couple hundred bucks and has a remote control. You can set it to the humidity level you desire. It seems to do a pretty good job.
