Here is a strange question. My wife and I just upgraded from a queensize to a kingsize bed. This means that we are no longer able to use the headboard from our existing set. This came from my wife's family and is about 25 years old. I was just going to give it away but then my wife said " I am sure we could sell it and get something for it. Surely a solid rosewood headboard must be worth something!!" So I take a closer look and this headboard is 8' long by 27" deep by 1" thick and iy is solid wood! Not a veneer. Would this be of any use to a luthier....and how can you tell the difference between braz and indian?? The graining pattern is gorgeous.

I dont know about luthier, but i sure could turn it into something beautifull. If you put up some pictures of the grain we could prob figure out the species. I would think that a luthier would want two bookmatched pieces. You might just want to put it in storage for future generations to see a solid piece of hardwood furniture. My family has a bedroom suit of all solid quartersawn white oak that was made by the local omish community...Im not a huge oak fan but this is really nice and prob worth alot.

I would still question whether it's solid wood, or a real veneered plywood. A headboard that big with inch thick solid rosewood would have to weigh a ton!

I built a dresser/changing table for my first born out of solid oak & maple & it takes 2 people, or a dolly to move.

and have to go to a commerical mill; otherwise need a bandsaw with a fence (?) or a circular saw w/ a large dia blade to cut to thickness; 27" deep, even ripped to 18", is asking alot.

No expert here, just a question.

If it is solid, then it was likely sawn slabwise from a log, rather than quarter-sawn as one would do to pull guitar boards. Who knows about this? Didn't we have a lengthy discussion a year or so ago? I'll go look.

Pictures, please. Sounds gorgeous, whether it's guitar material or not.

Search function not clean yet on older posts, can't find references.

A bit of a shame considering the factual gems scattered throughout .

Referring to text or pics? Re/ pics, this version of BB software has quirk; owner of older posts must edit out IMG pixel data and pic will appear, otherwise URL only / no pic in the post. I haven't had any problems searching by key-word or author. cj

The picture thing was the result of a modification to the old forum so pictures would be automatically resized within a post. You could of course click on a photo & see the full size image.

The search function is hit or miss here. I am 2 updates behind however, so that may be addressed as soon as I can get some time.
