What I see as wrong - is that the floor under the chair seems to be tilted - lower front - higher back - and like mushroom wrote :

It also appears that the bottom of the back wall (where it meets the floor - the skirting) seems not to line up. Like it jumps back a bit behind the chair??

I did leave a "like" on his post - #29 - that was the last wink.

Now that I revealed what I think is wrong - how do you see it - knowing what to look for?

The wall behind the chair, the baseboard from right to left is a single line. It lines up. What you see as being lower on the left side of the chair is actually a pattern on the floor that continues towards the viewer right in front of the desk. I looked at that for a bit too, and you could put a straight edge on that baseboard line across the entire back wall.

It's the border of the rug, not yet drawn in behind Mr. Dickens and his chair.

Exactly.

So there are multiple things "wrong", as many people have mentioned, not just the perceived "tilt" in the floor. But as I said earlier, how can anything really be "wrong" when the painting is unfinished?

I've seen the painting before, I always the thought the fact that it is unfinished is what made it so interesting. What would it look like if Buss had finished it? Would it be more "famous"? Part of its "fame" over the years has to do with it's unfinished state, as it let's the viewer sort of ponder what might have been.

There were several posts of items that I noticed, many more of things I may have missed.

Whatever… It was a fun thread.

Thanks, Nuuska!
