What is a D60?

Today, I played a very nice guitar that I have never seen before. It was a Guild D60. It had gold tuners, ebony fretboard, sunburst finish and a pickup with volume and tone controls.

The peghead didn't look like my D55. It was a good looking guitar and sounded nice too. The guy wanted $1,200 for it.

What can you tell me about the Guild D60?

All I know is that a D60 has maple back and sides...is the same shape as a D55 and I believe has an arched back and as much bling as the D55...if it's in good shape... low action, straight neck, high saddle, good frets etc...the price you mentioned seems good to me...others much more knowledgable than me will chime in I'm sure.
Here is a webpage with a Westerly D60

Best of luck,

Or you might have played one of these, a mid to late 80s D-60, the follow on model designation to the D-66, a Gruhn/Walker Guild, by all reports the Golden Age of Guild Acoustics....

Not a bad price for that model D-60 in good shape and sunburst. Got any pics?

The Gruhn designed D-66, alas mine is gone, was a wonderful guitar.

Hello Firebird,

You're wasting your time. You've played it and you liked it. Take it from me that the price is right; that is, if the guitar is structurally OK.

Now go and get it before somebody else realizes that this is a good deal!

Good luck!

As usual, Hans is completely correct - go NOW and buy it. That is a great price!

Pretty axe!

And, to be clear, that guitar is certainly not maple. Looks like a rosewood body to me.

Hey Chazmo,

Randy was referring to another model D-60, which has maple back & sides indeed.

Sincerely,

Great photo, Pike! It shows nicely one of things I've always liked on my D64 - the diamond shaped inlays on the fretboard. Not a reason by itself to buy the guitar, of course, but a pretty cool feature of these particular guitars.

Yep, nice inlays for sure walrus. Here they are on my D66... larger than the ones on the later D60...
