I don't know GAD. I thin that for the price, you could find one with all the original parts on it. I know you're really GAS'n for one, but I'd wait it out.
BTW: What exactly are you looking for, and what's your price range? Are you after a IV, V, or VI? Preferred finish? Era? Is condition more important than vintage? It seems to me that there are usually a lot of Westerly SF IVs around in great condition post-'75. You can afford to be choosier with a more recent guitar. It's the 60s-early 70s examples that are hard to find in brilliant condition for a decent price, and I think they're overpriced.
Here's the whole story.
When I was in high school, I bought a Guild S300A-D, and a friend bought a Starfire-IV in blond. This was probably around 1980-82 range. I've wanted one ever since. I love the master volumes on the older SF IVs.
Having recently bought a 1999 X-170 and fallen head over heals in love with it, I'm now also fine and might even prefer a 90's SF4. The master volume is nice, but not a requirement.
I am a flat out sucker for flamed wood, which is what pushed me over the edge on the X-170. I'm taking lessons again at 44 years of age, and we're doing Jazz stuff, so the X-170 fit right in.
Still, I need me a thin semi, and a Starfire is the only girl for me.
Looking through the forum here I've seen some killer pictures of 90's Starfires in sunburst, and for the first time, I'm thinking I'd like one of those, since my need for a flamey blond has been met with my X-170. In fact I almost scored one on Ebay but was out-bid at $1400, which was my limit. It was a flamed, sunburst beauty in like new condition. Thus my OCD has not been fulfilled, leading me to bother everyone here with Starfire obsession posts.
