Can anyone tell me what the dual piezo p/u in a Westerly-made B30 would be? Friend has one, does not think its working properly. Any replacements known?

I'll bet you thought I'd never answer.

This is the box the previous owner included when I bought the B-50 which is split saddle. "bride plate transducer" suggests to me it is not undersaddle and thus the split saddle is of no importance.

RT installed one of his in place of the original Baggs (I think) in my Taylor. This was done in 1999. if you ask nicely you could probably get one his acolytes to do it.

I would say that now is an opportunity to put something better in there. Acoustic guitar pickups have come a long way since was what is OEM to that bass was installed. My B50 was pure acoustic, does this one have a "barn door"?

Sandy, have to email Peter back and see, but my guess is not, simply based on the image at the begining...if the bass has the control knobs drilled through the upper side bout...but where would the circuitry and the battery be? Velcro'd inside?

The B30 here does not have a barn door which is what I would expect.

Guessing, I would expect whatever circuitry is present is inside the bass side shoulder under the controls. The transducer is under the bridge and there are a few wires connecting everything. Battery velcro'd somewhere.

Any luthier or tech who is competent enough to replace the existing system should be able figure out how to rip it out as well.

Repair does not have to be rocket science at least until all the wires and connections have been checked.

I also have to ask, why? Is this one of those 'it's broken so it must be fixed' things or will it actually be used with the electronics? If I need the amplification my first approach is to use an electric bass and not use the B50 with its pickup.

Yes, the user wants the p/u system to work...my guess is mostly for home studio stuff, but he does play out frequently. Everything you gents have provided has been helpful for me to pass on. Not a lot of colloquial experience around here to get info from...
