I see what you mean: Early 90s mahogany dred on ebay-UK:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Guild-D412-Twelve ... dZViewItem

Buyer does fix-up on pickguard, BIN £599.00 at, say, 1.8 $US to 1£ or about $US 1,000, next closest Guild 12 with BIN nearly 60% higher...Ouch!

Are new Guilds/any other US stuff subject to Tariffs of any kind or is this a supply and demand thing, not many guitars pushing prices up?

I remember trading my Gibson 12 in on my HoboKen F2-12 many moons ago. Never regretted that move. Still have that small Guild 12......an to the best Guild 12-string guitar in all of Guitardom....why of course....."MY" JF-55-12!

We don't allow no Taylor playin' round here
We don't allow no Taylor playin' round here
But it don't matter if they ain't allowed
They couldn't be heard anyhow
We don't allow no Taylor playin' around here

Sorry Taylor owners, its supposed to be humorous  I must confess, I've lusted after many a Taylor 6 string.

(But I've never heard one that could compete with my F-512!) :D Its a blues freight train. And when its fingerpicked, it sounds like a Steinway. Did I mention the action is about 3/32" at the 12th fret and it doesn't buzz anywhere? I'm with you hoboKen, there's certainly something to be said for Guild's top-of-the-line rosewood jumbo 12's with twin truss rods.

:D Bravo, bravo. We truly ARE glad you made it back Dred, especially after all we heard was going on down there with medications being confiscated and all.

Do post some pictures, I know you've got them.

Welcome, Woodruff!

I applaud you for your focus on Guild 12's. There are one or two dealers in California that might have what you're looking for, or may know where to get it. Send a LetsTalkGuild PM to california91207 (David) for a couple of store names. He follows the resale market out here as well as anyone I know. (He'll also tell you his JF65-12 is the best of the bunch :), when everyone knows it is actually my Westerly G-312. 8) ) If you head over this way to play a few, let him or me know and maybe we can team up to beat the dealer up on price! (That goes for any of you fellow geezers!)

I think if you can make a decision about tonewood and body style that suit the type o' tunes you play most, you're halfway there. Then you can contact Darryl Hattenhauer on this forum for where they might allow you to play there in AZ. Anywhere they'll allow him, you're prob'ly safe.

Again, welcome!
Post well. Post often.

Gee Mark .... I'd settle for mine's the prettiest, yours is the best....

But seriously folks, welcome to the forum Woodruff!

Right now there is a really nice Westerly F-212 at the Guitar Center on Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles. At an asking price of $1200, it outplays pretty much every other 12 in the acoustic room, including a $6,000+ Taylor.

California Vintage Guitars had an F-412, not sure if it is there or not but you can check their inventory online. They also have a couple of really nice Takom built 12 strings, both 412 and 512.

My JF65-12 came from Phoenix so don't give up hope, there are some nice, old guild 12s lurking in your neighborhood!
