Yes, our wagons were built in Indiana.

The Japanese revere American instruments, the good ones, so I think it's as someone else outlined, or was it you ;], better low end, keep the high end where it's at and make it better.

Hoshino really tuned into to players is what made them the juggernaut they became, KISS fashionably playing the Iceman, their association with Vai/Satriani, etc, etc.

Is the industry still poised for growth right now?

I don't think there's an instrument they don't make under their own brand (well, maybe double reeds, not sure??).

I stopped reading around page 11 so if this has been said before...shoot me!

Locked and loaded but this Moderator is not going to pull the trigger :)

I will piggyback on the veer and observe how the American perception of Japanese products and quality thereof have changed over the years. I remember when "Made in Japan" was a synonym for "junk". Now it's not. I remember when the reputation of the iconic Japanese Zero (fighter plane) was such that Americans who lived through WWII refused to buy any product that could be traced to Mitsubishi, a problem when that became an automobile brand available in the USA. I should probably stop now ;-)

Don't use the f-word around wooden guitars. :)
I have four vintage Guilds and have owned two Yamaha’s- a twelve string in the early 1970’s and a 375s I bought in 1981. Both were fine guitars and I still own the 375s. It is my travel guitar. Every time I am tempted to sell it, I play it, appreciate the craftsmanship and how it has opened up and has a rich mellow sound and easy playability. I don’t think I will ever part with it.

If Guild cannot be a stand alone, having an owner that appreciates fine well built musical instruments, especially acoustic guitars, is a pretty darn good match. Much better than Fender who built marginal acoustic guitars then and still does now.

For me, this is a pretty good development.

Play on Guild and Yamaha players….

Yup and other brands. My dad was one. Times have changed.

In other news, isn't the Oxnard facility in a business park? I wonder if that would make it easier for Yamaha to rent/acquire nearby buildings if they want to expand (wood storage, warehousing, manufacturing, etc.). If so, that makes it less likely they'd want to move the facility elsewhere (Guild doesn't need yet another relocation).

I was reading this morning about the Yamaha corporation and they started out in the 1890s manufacturing reed organs and pianos, hence the crossed tuning forks in their logo. I think that when a lot of people, mostly non musicians probably, think of motorcycles, but musical instruments seems to be their main focus.

Guild and Yamaha

It's a holy marriage actually. Potentially the best thing to happen to Guild since its first sale to Avnet, though it's not a very well kept secret that no matter who owned Guild, the guitars - USA - never suffered, much unlike the higher priced Gibson/Fender offerings.

Well, they do a million things, Roland, but at least they started (and never stopped) with music.
