This is a long shot, I know. I'm hankering for a really nice maple jumbo, like an F-50 (but would consider other models or brands). I don't have the cash now and may end up waiting 6 months when I'll have some extra coin and getting a new one. But on the off chance that somebody has a really nice F-50 and would be interested in trading for a mandolin of equal value sooner rather than later, I'd love to hear from you. I have a bunch of mandolins, all high quality and all in great shape. Most are oval hole.

So, if you've always wanted a nice mandolin to keep your Guild company on cold nights, this could be your chance. If interested, get in touch and we can figure out what I might have that has a value comparable to what you have and that might spark your interest. In most cases, I can give you a ton of information about any of these mandolins and I can also provide pictures.

Okay, here's a "for instance;" a 1913 Gibson A-3 in excellent condition. The A-3 was the next-to-top model in the A series of pear-shaped mandolins made by Gibson and is distinguished primarily by the pearl curlicue inlaid into the headstock:

The darkening at the right edge of the body, next to the purfling, is just a finish bruise from the pickguard clamp that one rested there. Bridge, tuners (which work great), tailpiece are all original. This is a delightful instrument to play with no issues and none of the compromises in stability, integrity, or playability that you might associate with an instrument approaching its 100th birthday. It's fully serviceable and has the warm, fat, sweet tone associated with vintage Gibson oval holes.

Thanks for looking. I'd love to hear from you.
