We may be in the market soon for a new TV to replace the green tinted 21" we currently have. The boys tell me scores cause I can't see them.
I heard Vizio's were pretty good and reliable.

Any help?

My opinion is to view them with others. Take a long look at them, take a movie with you that you love and have the staff put it on for you them ask them to leave you alone.

The prices on flat panels are such that many brands fall in the same range so pick the one that looks and sounds the best for you.

I bought a Sony Bravia last year and am very happy with the purchase. I would not try to persuade anyone to buy this one over another though as it fit our situation the best. Small room close viewing range, etc.

One thing I will say is it's a great change from CRTs.

Get the HD though.

Hi Billy; we have one; it has good but not great video and we haven't had any problems with it. They usually sell for a lot less than the big-time brands. J

"GET THE HD"

That is the big thing, really. I know so many folks that have dropped the big bucks for an HD monitor, but then fail to get an HD programming package to support it. You hear them saying "Really, I can't tell the difference!". It's such a waste.

VIZIO? As Mr. Blues says, they are usually rated as "pretty good". I like SONY for TV, and also like the looks of some of the Panasonic stuff I've seen. But it's personal preference, so you have to do your research and look at them in person without sales pressure. Check Consumer Reports, they have unbiased ratings.

But get the HD!

Thanks everyone for the help :D

The lady with the key to the checkbook...I mean my wife, is finally starting to acknowledge it's time for a change. So it's a matter of her telling me "we should go look at TV's". Making it her idea has yielded wonderful things over the years.....nuf said there!!

Our cable actually places a few HD channels on the line-up without HD service. If you don't have a set top box currently and you have cable service, you might be able to tune those HD channels in with your new TV's digital tuner. That said, we upgraded to HD set top box when we got our HD television. There are many more HD channels available through the set top box.

You really can't compare sports the old way with sports on HD. There's no going back. You will love it for sports!

We bought a 42" plasma LG television (HD) last year, and got the prior model the year before for my mom. She still doesn't have a set top box, but for network sports, she can still get HD.

I like plasma better than LCD, but the LCDs are very good nevertheless. LCD draws less power, and they are far more common these days.

Enjoy.

My uncle and cousin both have Visios and they are very happy with them.
I have a Samsung and a Sharp, both 40" 1080P LCD and recommend them, too.
Go for it... You'll be glad you did, and won't look at TV the same way. Just don't forget the HD cable box!

Hi tobyen and welcome to LTG. If you get a chance, tell us as much (or little) about yourself as you see fit. Welcome! CJ

Are you replacing a 21" TV? I doubt you'd need top of the line anything at that size. One of my friends has a visio and it works fine, has the hook-ups you need (though if you do HDMI it's 1 cable), and has good picture quality.
