Visited G.C and Sam Ash today to try out some guits. They had the usual, Martins, Breedlove. Taylors, Gibson, Epi"s and so on. Sadly, no Guilds except a 1980's F50 thats been around for more than a year. They are asking 2800.00 and won't budge
The Martins were consistently good, did not play any Taylors, or Breedlove . Tried 5 or 6 Epi's and didn't think much of them. The Gibsons were all over the place. There was a southern sloped shoulder tv. that was awesome but it had a price tag of 3500.00 I also found a few high end guitars missing strings and a really sweet Martin D18 with a couple of cracks on the top (dryness maybe ). When I went to hang it back up I noticed 5 or 6 other high end guits with cracks too
Anyway, none of them came close to the sound or feel of my gf25.
Maybe I"m just biased

Similar experiences at GC and Sam Ash here. I'm still waiting for some US-made Guilds at Sam Ash. It's been nearly a year since I heard the news now...

I don't trust my memory but I thought the take from LMG2010 was not to expect NH Guilds in GC or SA. I thought both chains had "minimum order" requirements that were close enough to the production capacity of the plant that meeting the minimum order and other stocking requirements would make them the de facto exclusive source for NH Guilds. I seem to recall that that some other unusual requirements of GCs were alluded to as contributing to the current decision not to pursue GC as a NH Guild dealer.

I seem to remember talk of Guilds going to Sam Ash but not GC. Sam Ash does offer Guild on their website.

Probably my memory then on SA, although of the 9 Guilds I could find on their web site, 7 were GADs. The other two models could come from NH unless Fender is still shipping Tacoma stock as new. I'll try and remember I was wrong. Let's see how long that lasts.

Frono,

I clearly remember Dave G saying that Sam Ash was going to carry Guilds at LMG 2010, and in fact had brought a catalog (same one that was in the goody bag) that I had picked up at the Sam Ash in Huntington NY. Back then there were catalogs, but no guitars. Now a year later, there's no catalogs, and no guitars. :(

I'm not holding my breath...

Seems like production finally got in sync with marketing.

Not from what we heard at LMG2010 LTP. Guitar Center was never in the cards. New Hartford doesn't have the production capacity to feed a chain that large.

Right now I can't find a listing of merchants by name, it only lets you put in a zip code to show you dealers in a variable radius of the zipcode. In any case GC hasn't been "Authorized" for at least several years, here in San Jose, and I DO remember being surprised that Sam Ash got "Authorized", since it didn't seem to be a good fit with the small production volumes that were initially anticipated, as Frono points out..
This "authorized dealer" issue carries a lot more weight now than it used to, especially in the technicality of getting a warranty and getting it honored, the warranty now specifically states it must be purchased from an authorized dealer. It used to simply say it was extended to the original purchaser, so keep your receipt.
So there may be other reasons for selecting "authorized" dealers, relating to their ability to support warranty issues, and I don't just mean repairs, but things related to maintaining the integrity of the warranty, like not "re-selling" to other dealers for example.

Thanks Al. I should have been more specific. When I put in my zip, Gc and Sa came up as well as others. I am going to call around and see if they have them in stock. As for as the dealers issues I haven't give it much thought but thanks for the edumication

Well right back atcha re: Edumification! Gc being listed is definitely a change from about a year ago, makes me wonder if they might be limited to GADs or something....
I'm SURE the website wouldn't show dealers who weren't "authorized".
VERRUH INTERESTIN'...... 8)

Sam ash here in the Atlanta area told me a while back they were an authorized dealer, although they didn't have any in stock. However, they could order whatever I wanted.
Not much chance of A B C'ing different guitars that way.

Sadly Ken that is right. See I kinda got a head of myself ( gas attack ). Here is the deal I have going with the wife. In order for me to get a new guitar I have to A) sell my Dv6 (rosewood ) :p and B) do everything on her to do list  So at this point I just can't buy anything. Here's how I rationalize it. I want the support of my wife to support my g.a.s so whats a few remodeled rooms and a 5 or 6 month wait gonna hurt.
That's my rationale and I'm stickin to it
