I just got back from Vegas. Mrs. Cougar and I were just there for a couple nights to take in the John Legend concert (and some fine dining), so we didn't really have time to hook up with Tom. I wasn't a huge fan like Mrs. Cougar, but OMG, the concert made a fan out of me. It was freaking stupendous. What a production. Dancers, back-up singers, horn section, guitar, bass, piano, keys, two drummers... And John Legend's voice was, well, really good. He also played piano. Really a talented guy.

Anyway, I took quite a few video clips with my phone, and some of them came out pretty good. (Mrs. Cougar got tix in the 3rd row!) What's the deal with putting concert video clips up on Youtube? I watched a video explaining about "permissions" on Youtube, but at the end of the video it sounded like they only take down concert videos if they are contacted by the copyright holder. If I don't naively identify the clip by the performer or concert date, etc., what are my chances of getting a concert video clip up on Youtube (and not having it taken down)? I basically just want to show family and friends, but the files are so large, they're totally not email-able.

I'm still in video processing mode, but I was just wondering.....

People do it all the time, I would just post it and if you get a 'copyright' claim, then take it down.

They can be a bit funny on YouTube. They have even put claims against my own band's music I put to a video I made of mainly stills from the 60s.

They seem to have a system of copyright claims and strikes. They often put claims against covers your band may play, for using 'the melody of a song', but allow it to carry on or they may block it in a particular country. My band were on a BBC programme a few years ago, where we had to play original and cover songs. For the covers, they told us to avoid any songs by The Doors, Journey or Neil Young as they may have copyright issues.

So the claims are not 'too serious' It's the strikes that appear to be the worst. I assume it's 3 and out. On our small channel of 234 videos, we probably have 20-30 copyright claims, which are mainly playing covers live at gigs or practices . I don't think any have been blocked

You can post those clips "privately" on Youtube, and share the links only with family/friends.
Ah, that sounds good... except I want to view the clips on my big Roku TV, and the only way (that I know) to bring up the video on that system is to search Youtube for its title. So I'll take John's advice and just go for it and cross my fingers. Thanks, guys! Watch for upcoming concert video clip! The sound at the venue was really good, but loud, of course. I thought it might overdrive the little phone mic, but no, surprisingly it wasn't too bad.....

I upload a lot of clips that I don't make public, and share the links w/ friend's/relatives. To watch on your tv, when you log into your YouTube account, just go to your channel and you should be able to access all the videos you uploaded, both public and private.

Assuming you don't have a channel, you need to click your profile picture after you have logged into YouTube account.

There then is an option to "create channel". Follow the steps and you're good to go.

As a side note, any films/tv series you buy or rent from Google store will be available to also watch within your YouTube app under "library".
