This is going to be a lot of work. I removed the non-original pick gaurd and found a patch of epoxy or something. Luckily, it will get hidden by the new pick guard when that gets done. It looks like someone installed this pick guard over unfinished wood after they stripped the guitar, then sanded the top because some of the pick guard area is actually higher than the top right next to it... probably a 32nd of an inch. The long crack on the back was repaired with a glob of glue on the inside and electrical tape on the outside (I removed the tape). There’s a nasty crack on the top that will be visible even after it’s repaired. Next up is a trip to the luthier to map out a reasonable strategy. This beauty may not ever see her former glory, but she’ll be playable with a new, aged beauty.

The D-44 is at the luthier’s. There’s concern the top might be too thin to support a bridge. It kind of looks like someone took a pad sander to it.

Dammit! Hopefully your luthier can make this work.
