Hey John, what year?

As has been mentioned before here, several times, the D-25 is a can't miss. You're not going for bling on a 25, just pure sound, which they deliver. I think it's OK for these to have battle scars, kinda like having a dog with three legs and one eye, you call him lucky and he still wags his tail 'cause he's just happy to be here.

This is my cherry '76. Awesome player. This was a no-brainer at $300 CAD, no time to think. These should be worth IMO $450 - $700 though the market really is all over the board. It's not something I would buy in order to make money on, but I really don't think you would lose money on it.

I would take this guitar anywhere to play, though no ones wants me to.

That's a very good get, John. As you say, some bring $500 and up and are worth every bit of that from a sound perspective. I also grabbed a bargain D-25 last winter. These guitars wear battle scars well and reek of 70's vibe.

Congrats on a beautiful D-25.

I bought mine in 1973 new. I reset the neck in 2003.
Loved it so much, I had it completely restored in 2006.

One of the all-time great dreadnaught guitars. It's the
Mazda Miata of steel-string acoustics.

I've seen 'em sell on EBay from $200 to $900 .

and heavier :D

Just got done playing a whole weekend of music with my D-25 at a men's retreat. It was louder than the Taylor and Epiphone the other two guys were playing, put together. Seriously, I was drowning them out, I had to back off a bit. I used to think it was my style, and have been accused of that before, but I swear, it's the guitar. I do play medium strings, however, and with a brand new set of D'Addario mediums, the D-25 doesn't play second fiddle to anyone

There was a nice older D25 in black "on the bay" that I should have snapped up recently, think it went for under 500, just couldnt pull the trigger on the buy in light of other recent purchases. Kinda regretting it now.......

There seems to be quite a few popping up lately though so for these in particular there's always another. :)

"and heavier "

Depends on the year. My 1972 solid hog D-25 is a very lightweight guitar. It's much lighter than a Miata, not to mention the arch-back D-25's from the Mid-70's.

Any 70's era D-25 is a "BUY" AFAIC. I really think it's a classic - not just for Guilds either. It's a classic for any brand. It is in a class of its own, like D-18's and J-45's. It just cost a lot less than either one and it sounded better.

If I don't get a D-55 this trip, I may just pick up a "project" Guild - preferably a D-25 and bring it back to VN for restoration.
