As many other parents here know, validation from kids is often rare and fleeting. Having recently acquired a G-41 and a D-40, my son has decided that I "can" give him the D-40 for his 21st birthday instead of the Martin I have on hand. After making a new bone saddle and nut, and replacing (courtesy of Hans!) a truss rod cover, the D-40 has been officially pronounced "baaad -a$$" and is now on his birthday gift wishlist.
I'm not sure if his opinion validates the Guild, my set-up skills, or his increasing intelligence... or maybe he inherited GAS. Oh, nooooo! :D

That's cool that you have that in common with your kid, Russ. Mine are falling rather far from the tree, I'm afraid.

It is cool; playing music with my son are some of my (continuing) fondest moments and memories.

How old are your kids, Chaz? I pushed my son hard to play sax well and he got really good, but he didn't start guitar until he was done with high school. We had some turbulent years through high school, but he's turning out to be a better man than I could ever claim credit for. Hang in there.

13 and 10, Russ... I'm really glad to hear that. I haven't pushed at all, and unfortunately natural talent is not enough to draw them into actually trying to improve. I think I may start pushing. Classical trumpet is my main musical gig (not guitars), but again I don't see either of these guys going down my path or even close. You never know, I guess.

Russ,
How cool that must be. I missed the opportunity with my daughter; but now hope our granddaughter is going to take music (guitar hopefully) serious. Man... giving up a D40... but it is in good hands and you know it!!! :D
