I am so jazzed that I won a D40 on ebay today. :D It's a Tacoma model with the red spruce top. Now the anticipation starts. I'm buying this without ever having played one because I have great faith in all the reviews plus I used to own a D50 many years ago. I have never played a bad Guild so I don't think I'll be starting now. I love the sound of the adirondack. I played a Martin D18GE with adi at a Guitar Center and have been wanting an adi topped guitar ever since. Needless to say the Martin is signifcantly more expensive that the Guild!! Hard to believe that Guild can make and sell adi topped guitars for the price they do and they are an absolute steal as a used guitar. Apparently few people have discovered their Bluegrass Jubilee models which is good for me. Yahoo!

Great deal. I almost had a D50 Bluegrass, but the guitar was destroyed in a shipping accident. I plan on shopping around for another D40 or D50 soon. I believe these new Adi topped Guilds are the deal of the century.
Just as a side note, I have been curious on the actual price of the raw Adirondack bookmatched top material. I had been looking on several tonewood suppliers websites and noticed there was only about 150 buck difference in the best quality Sitka top and the best quality Adirondack top on average. It kind of ticked me off how some manufacturers have an upcharge of almost 1000 for an Adi top (and we know who they are). And also noticed Guild only charges about 200 more for and Adirondack top (I compared the Ritchie Havens D40 and the D40 Bluegrass). Interesting....

Thanks all for the welcome...the D40 arrived and wow, wow, wow!! I've been playing it almost constantly since tuesday afternoon and it is already starting to open up. What a great sound and loud. I can't say enough about how good this thing sounds. This is my first guitar with an adi top. I have other guitars including a Goodall, 2 Martins, a blueridge, etc. all with sitka tops. This is a sweeping generalization but I have to say I am convinced that the adi top is what is making the difference in the sound. Very bright, well balanced, plenty of bass when you want it and excels for flatpicking or finger picking. I am a believer!
