While we all know of guitarists that can make a Teisco through an Alamo sound great, a good amp can convey all the expressiveness of the player and guitar....that's there, of course.

I gotta say that Teisco made some amazing pickups and pretty good guitars in some cases, and Alamo some great sounding amps.

OK, a Kapa Continental through a Marlboro amp.

A Westone through a Gorilla?

A Eko through an Acetone?

I dig the original Hofner pickups that you usually see on Kapa Continentals... I have a guitar and a bass version. Nice low output humbuckers, and they have massive rosewood slab boards.
I'm with you on the others !

I'm veering, but I have to reminisce a bit. My first playable guitar was a Hondo II Les Paul copy played through an original Crate amp, when they looked like wooden crates. Maximizing the stretching properties of the coiled phone-type cable, my brother and I would strike big power chords and then kick the amp tumbling down the stairs of our split level. Budding young rock and roll spirit! Amazingly, the Crate played on. I eventually traded the Hondo II for an Eko Barracuda 290 like this one.

I must say, though, that this guitar was fantastic. My guitar teacher, an avid Gretsch collector, was even quite impressed with it. Ebony fingerboard, thin but decent sounding single coil PUs, and the longest smoothest whammy bar I've ever seen or played on any other guitar. :wink: I learned a lot of licks on it, and I really miss that guitar. Not too bad of a match, though for. . .

Here's my last note on this cool old Ampeg. Been throwing every guitar I have at it in the last two weeks. Until tonight, top winners were the ASAT Classic tele, even more so, the ES-335. Just now, tried out my one almost-but-not-quite-Guild, a Dearmond M-75T. This is one I use strictly for open tuning and slide. It has the sweetest, lap steel like voice on slide, a distinctive and unusual tone. And never have I heard it sound as good as through this Gemini. Just beautiful! Can't wait to take this stuff out to a gig ...

<wince>

Didja have to bring up Marlboro?

Even my Starfire and my buddy's '61 Anniversary couldn't make that pig sound good.

On the bright side, the cabinet was nice....

I had a Marlboro amp.

It smoked. Literally.

Unfortunately it was the only amp I had, and I couldn't afford another so I actually put money into that turkey to get it fixed. :oops:

I was a kid at the time. Really.
