I have not been satisfied with any electronic tuners I've used.
I've used Seiko & Korg tuners for about 3 years. Of the two brands,
I prefer the Seiko. But next time, I'll spend a little more to buy
a more sensitive tuner with a better display.

I don't use a capo very often. But the Dunlop is very good for my playing.

It only costs about $20.

I've been a Shubb Capo loyalist for way past twenty years.

I used to like my Sabine MT 8000 combi tuner-metronome ,but it quit working(needs a battery wire resoldered).

Continuing the thread veer....

Just noticed your specs collection Jim, hanging from your teeshirt - or were you looking after Ken's in case he mislaid them :?:

 Very observant of you Jerro. BUSTED! Welp, I can't stand to wear glasses, and am afraid to try contacts. Can't wear contacts anyway because of what I do for a living. Like Ken, if I put 'em down, I'll forget them, so I leave them hanging on my shirt much of the time.

Do you miss anything? I do like your hat BTW......it's grown on me.

I don't own a Stetson, my straw hat is an El Cheapo, my winter hat is a Resistol.

West:

re Resistol hats: I've had some great guitar scores on eBay, but my absolute best eBay buy was a Resistol hat (as West knows, Resistol is the brand for working cowboys - and now that Ralph bloody Lauren owns Stetson, it's over). I bought a Resistol 15X Diamond Horseshoe hat for $30 Canadian. Now that may seem like a lot for a hat to those who don't wear them, but West and I know it's a steal. A good retail price for that hat is normally around $350US, normally way too expensive for anybody but the "big hat, no cattle" crowd.

and, on straw hats: when I was kid and looking for ranch work, I phoned the manager of the Gang Ranch here in BC. It's one of the largest ranches in the world. The home ranch is about 80 miles from the nearest town on a really lousy gravel and mud road and the range goes many miles back from there - hence, they have a hell of a time hiring people. The manager asked me if I knew anything about ranching. I lied, of course, and said that I had some experience (consisting of a month working as a temporary hand on a small horse outfit and another month as, god help me, a gardener on a dude ranch [now there's the bottom of the ladder]). Then he asked me "So, kid, do you wear a straw hat or roll your own smokes?". I said no, I wore a felt hat and I smoked tailor-mades. He said "OK. I never hire a man who rolls his own smokes and wears a straw hat. If he ain't rollin' a smoke, he's chasin' his f*****g hat. You're on." And that was the beginning of the best few years of my young life, looking at the world from the back of a saddle horse.

Thanks for the reminders.

Ralph Lauren OWNS Stetson?????????? Oh my gosh!!!!!!!! I can't believe my eyes. I'm with you John, Resistol all the way. And BTW for the rest of you, Restistol ain't too cheap anymore either........damned nice and well made hats.

They used to be made right here in my home town. Dallas now I think. I was lucky enough to tour the factory when I was about 18 and was given a shell off the line there. Had Johnny's Custom Hatters here shape it for me. Rarely wear it anymore, but I do love that one.

Sounds like you stole one off of eBay John!! PICTURE!! I've seen 'em retail in the $500-$600 range.

I'll get you a pic when I'm next up-country, West. 15X beaver, and just a hell of a hat, and given that I'm not exactly a working cowboy anymore, it will last me for years.

The working cowboys up here are starting to wear more of a wide flat-brimmed flat-top hat like the old Mexicans. At place like Douglas Lake, where I rode, it's now a real deal to dress like old-timers - some of the guys are even wearing leather cuffs and all that getup. Old farts like us with a standard "cowboy" hat look like geezers there too.

But it's still the case that you can recognize someone from a long way off by the way he sits on a horse, and from closer up by the shape of his hat. I had an old friend whom I hadn't seen for years come up to me at a rodeo this summer - he said "Hey, Kidder, that you? Thought I recognized that hat." Guess it poves there's no originality in my hat shaping, still look the same as they did 30-40 years ago.
