I've been thinking about getting a hybrid for a couple of years now and someone thought I would like them. I didn't. It had an OK acoustic sound and being smaller and thinner it was a lot easier to hold and strum than my dreads. However the neck was not particularly easy, harder to play than my G37 and it was not as well set up as it perhaps could have been.

I was plugged into an Fender Acoustic amp which I'm not all that thrilled with either but the thing just sounded OK on acoustic sounds. Crappy electric sounds and lots of hum from the single coil. It needs 2 outputs, one for acoustic amplification and one for electric. It only has 1. It would be great for $600 but no way is it worth the $1,999 Sam Ash has on it.

I've been wanting to try a Godin A6 Ultra but no one has those 'round here. I don't want to order one off Reverb without playing one first.

I'm mainly looking for a guitar to replace my G37 for gigging with something that sounds good and is easier on my aging hands and shoulders that I can play for 2 or 3 hours without an cramping creeping in.

I've been underwhelmed by the few I've tried. Half of those had hardware issues, in addition to sounding bad.

If you can find one -- give one of the new Highway series a shot. More acoustic volume, and trying less to be an electric guitar. The dreadnaught plays pretty well.

I've tried Taylor T4 and T5 they were actually pretty nice. They are also a good bit north of what I want to spend. So is the Fender I tried though there is a brand new Acoustasonic for sale on local CL asking $1,300.

I've been looking into these acoustasonics also. There seem to be quite some technical issues with these guitars according to some facebook groups.

I have a Michael Kelly hybrid now. It has a built in piezo and normal (sized also) humbuckers with a coil split.
Much cheaper than rhe acoustasonic and I am happy with that guitar.

I tried one of the fender acoustasonics at GC a while back. It was horrible. Like, I wanted to get it, not buy it, but understand the why. I left a bit miffed at Fender in general for even having the idea.

I tried a Michael Kelly hybrid the same time I tried the Taylors. The MK did not resonate with me.

I Tried a Godon Multiac nylon string hybrid, a used one, at Rudy's, Scarsdale, NY shop. Loved it, but I play a lot of bluegrassy and country shyte and need the sound of steel strings. The Rudy's guy is the one who suggested I try the Acoustasonic. I am now suspect of his guitar knowledge.

I found the MK piezo to be extremely thin and tweezy.

What about Yamaha Silent Guitar ?

Never seen one - but it seems interesting.

Had the nylon string yamaha. Decent. But it ate batteries for breakfast, lunch and dinner, IIRC.

Franklin/MIRC is blowing out the telecaster shaped player series for $499 on reverb.

Godin has made steel strings like the one you mentioned (I saw a French singer using one live around 20 or 25 years ago I think : the tone was very good for the audience - one of the very best I heard live -). Not sure they are still made, however...

They make one now that looks to be the same, but it has a neck pickup, at least the 6-string version does.

Mike Houser of Widespread Panic used the one you are speaking of, during their legendary "sit n ski" tour, in 1996 (but only on a few songs). It sounded really great, but, that is like saying a guitar that Hendrix played sounded really great. The necks look big on those, both new and old, but I don't really know.

I think the gigging solution is two guitars, one electric and one acoustic. Anything else, to me, is an unsatisfying compromise.

You need a backup anyway.
Funny thing happened the other day....was out walking the neighborhood with my wife, and I told her I would be downgrading from light gauge strings to custom lights, as it's just getting harder. She usually just rolls her eyes at such musings I will have but this time said, well, I think it's time you get an electric.
