So I was fortunate enough to land a 1985 D-15 in great condition from a very nice seller. OHSC and case candy included. The seller said that he bought the guitar new in 85 or 86, and that it had the ornate truss rod cover pictured below when he purchased it. The TRC fits perfectly - not sure how I feel about it aesthetically, but it sure seems like it was made for this guitar. Has anyone ever seen anything similar on a new Guild?

I've seen this TRC before but can't tell you out of my head on which guitar!
Maybe Hans is faster answering than I'm searching. And yes, there were pictures of such TRC here on LTG, happy searching...

EDIT: Found it, see post #9.

IIRC, I got Hans'd re: a similar TRC on a Guild dread once.. I can't recall which model dread it was... an early DV-7X, D-100, or DK-70? One of the limited editions... I just cannot remember which. I thought it was aftermarket, and Hans said it was factory original. Don't think it was a D-15, tho'.

Beautiful guitar. Fancy TRC! I’ve never seen one like it. I mean it’s no MOP profile of a wolf howling at the moon or anything but it’s nice!

That TRC looks like the ones on the early DK70 Peacock models. Mine does not have it.

Are we sure we aren't confusing it with this one?
No, not this one, exactly the one in the OP.

Here we go:

It belonged to this 1995 Peacock which Gruhn sold in 2015 and it is owned by a LTG member:

Only the early Peacocks used it (I have seen 006 and 012 with it).
George Gruhn himself confirmed it to the LTG owner.
S/N 028 and 042 already used the normal black plastic TRCs.

IIRC, I got Hans'd
Here's the post, Hans already confirmed it back in 2012: https://letstalkguild.com/ltg/index...d-trcs-1995-dk-70-peacock.171859/post-1529572

Wow - thank you for the legwork, Ralf! I'm still surprised to see something that fancy on a D-15. I'm also a little torn between leaving it original vs. going for something a bit less ostentatious. The guitar itself is a beauty - unexpectedly bright and chimey for a hog top. I plan to put some Retros on it at some point - I think it will be a nice mix.

What's weird is that the DK70s were produced 10 years later than your D-15, assuming it is from 1985.

I think there is more to this story, and probably only one person who can enlighten us.

Regardless, if you want to sell the TRC I will buy it. PM me.

Agreed. Very strange for the TRC to end up on this guitar. But great for you, Coop!

Agreed. The SN puts it right at the start of 85, and the case is a match for my 85 D50. The seller has no recollection of ever changing the TRC, and said he was suprised to hear it was unusual to see one - he absolutely did not use it to sell the guitar or raise the price, and I have no reason to doubt him.

I appreciate the offer to buy but I plan to hang onto it because it's part of the guitar's story at this point, and a little bit of Guild wierdness - which I always appreciate.

No problem.

I would be shocked if the TRC was original to a D-15, but anything is possible with Guilds, so I guess I would not be shocked after all.

Hello Coop47,

The ornate truss rod cover was part of an optional 'gold parts' package that included Gold Grover RotoMatics and a gold endpin. It was available on all acoustics, but it seems like not a whole lot of people fell for it, since you hardly ever see a guitar with those parts.
The truss rod cover has been used off-and-on on several other high-end models, but again those are also somewhat rare.

It turns out there was also an identical cover with a nickel finish, of which I found some in the parts room that I mentioned in earlier postings.
