Made the trade this afternoon..... That F50r however, what an amazing, complex tone. Wileypickett is absolutely spot on, it's completely different than the Martin.... The guitar looks mint and the tobacco burst is really nice on this one....

Oh yeah! Major congratulations! I keep saying it: You just can't beat a Guild jumbo! I've not played a really good Martin - I just had a mid-range GPCPA4 for a while (before I got the 12-string version, which I just sold off as well), and it was really well finished, but the sound was too.... refined... or something. Didn't do it for me. Of course, I'm sure an HD28 is at the top of Martin's line, so that's a different story. But so is the F-50R! It's the ultimate 6-string in my book. A GAS killer for me. Love that burst!

Oh my, that is gorgeous! Guild was doing some good things during their brief stay in Tacoma. Fresh strings and some time out on the stand while you play it in a little and you'll start to hear all kinds of harmonics and overtones.

Wonderful. 2005 Tacoma. You win. :)

That's a beauty. May you use it in good health and enjoy it! Let's hear back in a few weeks if you're still taken with the F-50R. I mean, I always was. Best of luck!

Put some new strings on it tonight. I ordered some EJ19 light / mediums PB but they're talking a while to get here. I have several sets of EJ16 and EJ14s on hand but I wanted something similar to the EJ19s so I threw on a set of rather old Martin Marquis SP PBs I had laying around. Almost the same gauges in 12 - 55 so I figured I could ride these out for a week or so until the D'Addarios arrive. After about an hour of play in I could really hear the guitar open up, beautiful tone. I think these Martin strings have to be 10 years old (still packaged as new) so I'm really hoping a fresh set of EJ19s will bring out even more of this guitar's glorious sounds.

Quick set up, 1/4 turn on the truss rod or so, little fret polish, board oil and she's playing beautifully with the slightly lighter strings than the other guy's mediums.

Thanks again for all the wise advice. This truly is a great place with some really phenomenal members!

Cheers

To post smaller photos when you upload them click on "Thumbnail". It's not really a Thumbnail just a smaller photo. For some reason it loads both photos so you then need to delete the larger photo and you're good to go!

Great advice Bernie but I completed the trade yesterday. I don't think I'll miss the Martin at all. I literally never played it and only pulled it out of the case to remind myself how much I didn't care for the tone at all. Great guitar but I didn't feel the need to hold onto it for purely investment purposes. I write and record a lot so I really like my guitars to provide inspiration and the tone I'm looking for. I had been looking to unload that Martin for about three years and the Guild just fell into my lap yesterday. It was the exact guitar I have been looking for, phenomenal tone and strikingly beautiful. I still have my other Martin that I play all the time, this particular HD28 hasn't inspired me in years so it was time to move on.
Glad to read you are fully happy with the newcomer ; I bet I should have a closer look at these Guild F-50Rs...They are rare in my country though and so far I've never come across any.
I write quite a lot too, and I understand well I think, what you mean by saying that some guitars give you inspiration while others don't...But I am a bit surprised to read that the HD D-28 did not.
Looks gorgeous...Enjoy

So I went full circle on the Martin for Guild idea. Bought a new Martin OM35 to replace the HD28. Much better guitar for the way I play, set up perfectly and has rich, full tone rather than the bass heavy HD28. The OM35 has great bass for a smaller guitar but the mids and highs are much more clear, articulate and musical.

Selling my Taylor 712e 12 fret on Reverb. When it's all said and done I should have the two guitars that make better sense for me and that I will play more without an outlay of cash. I still cannot put that F-50r down, what an amazing guitar!
