Has anyone seen the new Gibson Firebird X? Perhaps I am showing my age by not being impressed with it. This thing practically plays itself. It looks like it would be nice to have a computer degree before trying it. I'd rather be playing than spending hours and hours "finding my sound".

This video is pretty long, and the guy on it is very boring, but it gives you an idea of what this guitar does. Too much!!

it gets...

in fact, with a sf6 and this technology, you'd be having all sounds availble, you'd ever need in a pop-music recording.

me want want one orange sf-6 with this.

You would have to call it a "Starfire 2000" or something - "6" doesn't seem like enough!!

I like all the effects, but it would be pretty intense to try to actually remember all the different adjustments - I have enough trouble with four knobs!!

"2000" is so last century. You'd need to call it something like the "9000" for the name sound current for the next couple of years.
Or give it a name, like "Back FROM the Future". :D

Impressive, for sure, all that stuff on-board sure eliminates a lot of hardware typically required to achieve all those effects. Big bucks at $5,595 too. Hopefully not made of wood from Madagascar

I'd find myself playing WITH the guitar more than simply playing it. Still it would be awfully cool to own one :D

I dunno... it looks like another one of those Gibsons that we'll be talking about in 20 years.

"Remember that Firebird with all the switches and built-in effects? What the heck was Gibson thinking?"

I get confused with the four knobs on my guitars that are stamped only with the 'G'! And what the hecks that switchy thingy do on 'em anyway :? I'm almost serious. But the Gibby would be a very cool thing if one was 'techy' ....and well off :)

If it's effects you want then better to have the effects on the floor or in a rack - better quality, less limiting, more versatility etc & you can use them with other guitars. What happens when you break a string? If an effect module in the guitar malfunctioned do you have to send the whole guitar away (unlike external effects where you just send the offending part away & still use the rest)? Will parts even be available for the flash electronics in 20, 30, 40 years time?

Ok, I may have my "black hat" on but this just screams "gimmick" to me in order to try and be different for the sake of being different & guitarists are a pretty traditional lot, especially when it comes to wood & wires.

It is very easy. you can play with your guittars. The sound will be very perfect. Personly i have tried and get too much better sound. I hope you will enjoy it.

Link did not work for me. However, I agree with Zelja that it's much better to have outboard effects you can use with other guitars and that having so much on board tech ain't such a great thing.

What ever happened with Gibson's robo tuning guitars? Are they still making those?

It’s this kind of thing that led me to stop even consider buying new Gibsons. Had one with push pull pots and electric autotuner (robos). Completely unplayable even after huge learning curve. Hard to make inspired music.

How long has this thing been in the works? Is this the works of the last CEO?
