Wow, that is 3 numbers away from mine if I am reading yours correctly. Mine finished in Walnut and the serial is 104249.
When I saw Roy Orbison in the mid sixties he was playing a black Gretch with a Gibson neck. So I have always been partial to black. After looking at the back of the headstock I found104252. What year did you get yours?

I am not the original owner of mine. I received it in a trade with forum member @kakerlak in 2017. I'm not sure when he got it but he is not the original owner either if my memory is correct.

Wonderful. @merpt !

Bummer about the Starfire, but I'm glad you got a replacement!

By the way, I've not heard much (if any) discussion about Lou Dronge... Was he part of Guild? Or, perhaps he was a guitar dealer?

I don't remember Mark Dronge mentioning Lou either when he spoke to us back in New Hartford in 2013.

Chazmo,
You can find Lou's picture on page 9 of the Guild Guitar book.

Welcome to LTG! Interesting story! Feel free to post some pictures, we always love pictures.
Somebody will answer soon I'm sure, but as far as I remember an original one was not found, I remember people who made a copy however.

Ralf

Still having problems finding the right hinge for the Thunderbird. Any body out there know who would have made the hinge?

I can't imagine you'll find an original. I'd probably just have one fabricated.

Hi there, new member and proud new Guild Tbird owner :) I'm sure this has been asked before but I wanted to see if there is anyone out there that makes repro kick stands, mine is missing and even though I likely won't use it I just want it to make the guitar fee more finished. Kind Regards Jordan

Welcome to LTG! Not that I'm aware of, but Hans posted excellent pictures many years ago and it should be not too difficult to make one:

Hi Jordan,
I found a hinge on line and had it modified by a machinist friend of mine and I am having the body worked on to fit the hinge and new metal stand piece. This work is being done by Noll Guitars in Cranston R.I. Like you, I will never use it,but I like to have it look original.

So does the hinge just flip around loosely in the back and they rely on your gut to keep it in place when playing?

The kickstand is held in place by a magnet.

Thanks everyone for the input, really appreciate it. @merpt do you have a link to the hinge you mentioned?
Anyone know where is a good place to source the metal? Thanks for you're help and sorry for the rookie questions :)

If you can get the stand fabricated, try taking it to Home Depot and you might find the right size.

Gotcha, thanks @merpt

So I guess I'll look to source a piece of metal for the stand, may I ask if anyone has the measurements of the Thunderbir stand length width and thickness? Thanks everyone :)
