I just got back late Sunday night from a river cruise in France with a pre cruise extension in Paris and a post cruise extension in England. Monday morning I tested and found out that what I thought was a cold is actually covid. Dang, I'm a two timer, this is the second time. And I've been vaccinated as much as one can be. And both times on vacation. Anyway, the doctor told me that I'm an old hand at it, rest, watch tv, keep hydrated take Tylenol and stay home. Don't let the grand kids come over. I'm good.

So it all started the day I left the cruise for the post cruise extension. We were packed in a bus and there was a lot of coughing. And then we took a train under the channel and there was more coughing. Then we started taking bus tours of manor houses, even more coughing. People were talking about the cold going around, lots of people borrowing throat lozenges from each other for sore throats. I guess maybe it wasn't a cold. Anyway, it was the end of the cruise for us. We went home. But for many that England extension was their pre cruise extension and not a post cruise. I can't help but think some of them picked up the bug. I can not imagine the misery of a week on that boat locked in a stateroom. My thought and prayers go out to them. But I'm also thinking about all those with the "cold", like me, who hopped on busses, trains, planes, and in automobiles to head home. Honestly, like I said, I've been vaccinated four times and had it already. I was quite sure it was just a cold, how could it be anything else. We were laughing about it, end a great two weeks with a cold.

Anyway, thoughts and prayers. I apologize to anyone who picked it up from me, I didn't know. This covid is just crazy. Will we ever get past it? I pray we do.

Hope you recoup quickly, Roland! I think that COVID is just going to be something we have to deal with, but the medical establishment is getting better at treating it and will continue to do so. Hope the symptoms are mild, and quickly over!

Two couples we know, traveling together, both got Covid towards the end of a European cruise a few weeks ago. Any scenario in a crowded space with limited air flow still creates a risk. My wife & I continue to wear a mask when we think the situation calls for it.

I too got Covid on a cruise last fall. But after five Moderna shots, the symptoms were mild and gone within 48 hours, although I kept testing positive for a week.

Which is exactly what the vax's do. 👍🏻 They don't prevent or deter transmition, just ease the symptoms to a mild 1-2 day flu, at best. Not even previous positive case "immunity" does that. About the only thing left to fear w/ Covid is passing it on to someone w/ a preexisting condition who is not vaxxed. This likely won't ever fully go away. Neither has polio, or even the bubonic plague. We'll just keep getting better at treating it. (To the dismay of nature's way of handling overpopulation! 😈)

Yep, a cruise is a perfect storm. This one was cancelled and we were given vouchers due to lockdowns back in 2020. So we waited as long as we could before cashing them in. The cruise itself and everything connected with it was fantastic. Other than the souvenir, I couldn't have asked for a better time.

I too have been vaccinated and boosted. And I had it in January so I thought I would surely be immune. I wouldn't call my symptoms this time around mild. It hit me much harder than the first time. But the first time I was in California and they seemed to have a good handle on it. They got me on Paxlovid in forty-five minutes after I tested positive and called in to one of their covid centers. In Iowa it isn't that fast. I think they are still a little in denial here and I couldn't really do much until Tuesday afternoon when I could finally talk to my own doctor and by then I was too far into it for the Paxlovid to be effective. I do believe that the difference is getting on the Paxlovid early. But I'm not incapacitated or anything. I'm far enough into it that I just feel crappy right now. My wife is doing fine so far. Last time she came down with it two days after I did. Anyway, I actually mowed the lawn this morning in fifteen-minute chunks. So I'm alive and well.

The worst thing about this, every Sunday I go play guitar with a country/bluegrass jam and I'm not going to this Sunday. All vacation I've been itching to get back and play. I don't want to take the chance that I might still be contagious. I don't want to pass anything on. So I really miss my jam.

Feel better soon. You've already had it. No sweat.

My doctor thinks there's some truth to the fact that people like me, with O Negative blood, have a natural immunity to Covid. Either that, or I have just been very lucky. Covid seems pretty much over now in my area.
