Hi Walter...I met Pops Staples and his girls at a folk festival north of Toronto in probably 64 or 5....I think it was in a 'workshop' in the afternoon...where there were several smaller activities going on...yeah...that's where I also saw Richie Havens, and Gordon Lighfoot....I think it was the 1sst Maripossa folk festival near Orillia Ontario...I remember seeing Doc Watson there too...on a farmers property with tents we brought to sleep in, Small stage in field 'b' kind of thing...lots of meetings. campfires and jamming going on at night....what a great time...everyone was there for the music...no hassles....now what I remember about the Staples was their niceness and when they did a couple of numbers how the girls clapped each one differently, forming a great rhythm that just moved you while Pops droned on with his unique style with the tremelo on high, and his silky voice engulfing us with the teenage I think daughters doing the background....and out of that came Mavis...of course....What an honor to have been 'at his feet' for those minutes that afternoon....and those days are sorely missed by me and many others I suspect...Steffan
