I'm guessing 1966 by the lineup. This one concert had virtually all my favorite performers at the time with Beefheart, Love, Sir Douglas, Spoonful and of course the Byrds.
And the Leaves' version of "Hey Joe" is still my favorite. Best of all I could have left before the Beachboys came on! (Yes, I know Brian Wilson is a genius but growing up in Redondo Beach I had to rebel against the surfer culture which was dominant). This was sent to me by our bass player. A year later I did see the Spoonful at the Bowl but by then Zal had been replaced by Jerry Yester.

Great lineup. I too would have left when The Beach Boys came on. I never liked any of their hotrod and surf music. Still don't. I didn't realize Brian Wilson's genius until Pet Sounds and beyond.

To see The Byrds, The Leaves, Love, Beefheart, The Outsiders and Sir Doug would have been the highlights.

I like how they add the respective hit song of the time to the poster, don’t recall seeing one’s like that previous. I know Don Dokken grew up in Redondo, are you still in the South Bay?

Nope. 50 years ago in July we moved to North County San Diego. I figured DrumBob would have liked the lineup as I recalled his preference for '60s L.A. bands from past posts. I think it may have been Viv Stanshall of the Bonzo Dog Band that called the later Beachboy stuff "psychedelic barbershop"
music. I'd seen the Byrds a number of times and especially Beefheart, and Doug Sahm when he was with the Texas Tornadoes. Always sad I'd never seen Love or Arthur Lee in concert.
The core of our band are all alumni of Redondo Union High School. We do like to play our own surf instrumentals however. When I was tired of guitar lessons I remember practicing "Walk Don't Run" and "Wipe Out" on my '63 Polara back in 1965. The reverb in my Gibson Maestro amp was perfect with that guitar.

Don Dokken and Brian Wilson in the same thread. What a world. :)

Best part… $5.75-2.75 for tickets!!! Multiply that by 100 and it still might not be enough today.
