That's about what I paid a few years ago to ship a guitar USPS to the Netherlands. I stayed away from FedEx and UPS because it was crazy steep.

Like a lot of things these days, shipping has seen huge increases. Once in a while my company ships some stuff out of state and what we used to ship for around $400 is now $800 to $1000!

Many people outside of the continental U.S. dream of being able to get certain gear. I had a former work colleague in Sweden inquire for him about a vintage 60s Gretsch drum set from a well-known drum dealer in the States. I helped him coordinate shipping, and he didn't bat an eye at the cost. apparently, he'd been saving a looong time to get this dream set, and the whole enchilada cost +5K. That was 15 years ago. I can't imagine what a pallet would cost to ship country to country nowadays.

Ground to offshore destinations is silly, even if a US state.

I double checked in case I send a guitar to the big island or nearby, USPS shipping prices are completely reasonable, considering recent runaway inflation. Priority Mail to the big island for a 20lb 50x20x8 guitar box is only $137.85, well done USPS.

Also checked it with a NY Zip 10001 to see if more from the east coast, same exact price.
