"Best Black Dress" - The Nields

The Nields are hard to categorize. Katryna and Nerissa Nields themselves sound like folksingers, with unique voices, but the band sounds 90s alternative.

Later on the two sisters started recording as a more traditional folk-alt-country duo, also great. But their recordings with this band are still a lot of fun.

Say, maybe I can tap into the hive mind here. The whole time I've had this album, I've tried to figure out one of the images on the cover art (shown in the video preview). It contains these five images randomly repeated:

I understand four of them: a bed, a hand, an angry man, and Greta herself. But the other one with the green and brown blobs, I've never figured out what that is. A mountain? A snake eating a turd in the corner? Pac-Man puking? What does it look like to you?

Clearly a scenery - not having any idea of the musical content of said record. maybe someone is going far far away ?

Slow and dreamy, from their beautiful Apple Venus album.

"Back of the Line" - Marti Jones

Jones is known for her excellent taste in selecting songs to cover, from the likes of David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Marshall Crenshaw, and John Hiatt. But this one is an original, written with her husband Don Dixon, and it stands in good company with her cover selections on the delightful Used Guitars album.

"Bright College Days" - Tom Lehrer

Contains the immortal lines: "Soon we'll be out amid the cold world's strife / Soon we'll be sliding down the razor blade of life."

"Symphony No. 3 (Eroica)" - Ludwig van Beethoven

This is Herbert von Karajan directing the Berliner Philharmoniker. Karajan did the Beethoven symphony cycle four times over the course of his career, three of them with Berlin Philharmonic. Some directors choose a faster tempo for this symphony, and that's fine too, but Karajan's Beethoven is well-known, so I picked this version to post.

Beethoven was going to dedicate the Eroica to Napoleon, but when Napoleon decided to make himself an emperor, Beethoven was so furious that he scratched Napoleon's name off the score, so forcefully that it tore through the paper.
