"She's a Mod" - Ray Columbus and the Invaders

This single made instant lifelong celebrities of Ray Columbus and his band in their native New Zealand. It's definitely worth watching. The rhythm section in particular is fun to watch - the bass player doing sort of a goofy Freddie and the Dreamers bob the whole time, while the drummer goes into periodic thrashing fits where he can't even keep his foot on the floor.

A bit of trivia: The song is actually a cover. The original is by The Senators, who are chiefly remembered now for being the band that launched John Bonham. Here it is, with Bonham drumming, but it's not as good as the Invaders version.

"We" - The Roches

This song, and the album it comes from, were produced by (of all people) Robert Fripp, in "audio verite" (his term). It's a wonderful album and almost all acoustic, but where Fripp adds the occasional guitar solo, it blends unexpectedly well.

One of the sisters - Terre, I think - returned the favor by providing a screeching, tortured vocal for the title track of Fripp's "Exposure" album.

"Pump It Up" - Juanes and Elvis Costello

When EC announced a Spanish language retread of This Year's Model, I was skeptical. But the two releases I've heard from it, this and La Chica de Hoy (This Year's Girl), are outstanding, and I'll likely get the album.

Had to listen to this one to understand the connection. Clever. :D
Another nonsensical song from Graham Nash, with an even more nonsensical title.
[BTW, that Fripp album is great]

I completely agree. It's an enduring favorite for me, both the original version and the rework Fripp released years later with alternate tracks and running order. I have the full trilogy: Exposure, Peter Gabriel (Scratch), and Sacred Songs. Of those, I think Sacred Songs is the weakest, but they're all worthwhile.

"While You Were Sleeping" - Elvis Perkins

Perkins' father was Anthony Perkins, famous as Norman Bates.

"Little Girl" - John & Jackie

It is astonishing this record got released in 1958. It's borderline pornographic, especially for the time.
