I'm not a big fan of "rap", but his message was powerful, and his band was always great. I used to work in a record store in the late 70's and we played his album "Secrets" over and over - love the song "Angel Dust"...

Hey Qvart;
.and whitey's on the moon.

...and there is a black man in the white house. What do either of those comments have to do with a musician who passed away?
I'm not judging his song, I just like the way it sounds. Come to think about it....he's not that far off from center.

I'll sit here with you waiting for an "embarrassed" emoticon to be posted. I LOVE a good in-joke, myself.

Actually as an outside observer, I figured CA-35 knew what he was talking about (or why would he say "I'm not judging his song"?) so perhaps the :oops: will be posted by someone else? I saw the comment as expressing the opinion that race relations and economic injustices have changed, and probably improved since 1970. I also appreciated the subtlety of expressing a probably political opinion without being blatant about it. But I don't see any Oops moments.

Which just means that I will probably end up embarrassed...

:lol: :lol: :lol:

My wife frequently tells me that I don't talk enough. :roll: I guess my previous post illustrates that all too well.

My only intent was to clarify that Qvart's comment was an allusion to another Gil Scott Heron poem.
I think that we're all trying to do the same thing, that is, to honor a powerful American voice that has recently gone silent.
Thanks CA-35 for reminding us of that voice.

Poser I think Frono was actually talking to me since I mentioned the embarrassed emoticon, but yes I got that, and it looked to me like Scott missed that same point you saw in Qvart's post, which surprised me. :roll:

But he clearly didn't miss the point, IMO :wink:

To me it looked like the musician was cited by the OP, with a link to one of his songs...when someone else posted a reference to one of the same musician's songs, the OP asked what that had to do with the musician....thus appearing to me to be a case of a missed "inside joke"... 8)

CA-35's ironic, not clueless, comment clearly does not translate well into a text medium.

I could have been more creative with my post. Just threw that one up on the board via phone while at work. But I'm happy someone around here made mention of GSH.

BTW - a friend passed me his most recent album awhile back, but it got put on the back burner what with moving and all. Anyone else listen to it?

There was another notable person who passed this week -

God bless you, Dr. Kevorkian.

(just to see who picks up on that reference :lol: )

To all those concerned;

When I did not see a link to the song I assumed that HE was unaware and then I guess it all went south from there. I took it as a jab and thus my comment about the man in the house. Then when I saw other people trying to tell me that he was mentioning the song, rather than fire back I decided to not sign on for a few days and let the dust settle.

Once again, as Frono has pointed out in the past, my intentions were honorable however my execution was lacking.

I just wanted to show a little respect for a great musician who had a rough life and an untimely death.

I remain,

Also Qvart, sorry about the confusion/arrogance of the my previous post on GSH.

You happen to be spot on about Dr. Kevorkian. Now there was a man who was years ahead of his time. We are a nation of silly-people; We will put a dog or a cat down to avoid suffering however we will watch as friends and family, hooked up to feeding tubes and ventilators, die a horrible death.
