Well I think the thread in the other subforum is pretty played out, so for everyone's general consumption here is the latest and probably final tweaks to my 1985 Guild Nightbird, all done!

First, a clip of what it sounds like now:

And the pickups are GFS Memphis Retrotron Humbuckers. The guys from Guitarfetish sure know how to make 'em, and for a reasonable price, and they got here in a day believe it or not. Anyhow, here are the glamour pics:

I love the Tobacco Sunburst and 1 11/16 nut width and carved spruce top and chambered mahoghany body - it totally makes me think that if my Gibson J-45 was an electric, this is what it would be and feel like. This one's definitely a very pleasant surprise!

Anyone else have pics and clips of theirs? I'd love to hear soundclips and vids of Nightbirds with original EMG or Seymour Duncan or Kent Armstrong pickups to compare!

Ooh amberburst with original EMGs! Post a clip of it in action? And maybe it's my imagination but don't the headstocks look different?

I could never wrap my ears around filtertrons.

I'd love to try out a bunch of big/fat/high outpout single coils, though!

OK, I'll share. Here are a couple of pics of my '87 GG Nightbird. The color is a light amberburst (I've also seen this color called as "almondburst," though I don't know if that was ever an official Guild color). The rim is less orange than the pics may suggest -- it's less orange than two previous '91 amberburst NBs I once owned.

This NB almost certainly had EMGs when new, but they had been replaced when I bought it with a set of Duncans. Subsequently, I pulled the Duncans and installed a pair of Bartolini PBF 49, 51
vintage-toned pickups. They sound incredible (sorry, no audio samples) and the flat cover is aesthetically consistent with the Armstrong and EMGs originally found on the NB.

Gorgeous top on that one!

I really wish I could crank it but it's not the weekend yet, which means low volume clean chimey stuff for now - I'll Destroy all Guitars this weekend for certain tho!

And if you do find time to post a clip of the 'bird with Barts, we'd love to hear it!

wouldn't this be a proper replacement for the blue es-135?

The sad thing is that it would probably be the replacement for that, my Starfire II and my Nightbird, but even then I'll still be short of cash to get it, heh! Well it's nice to dream anyhow.

Technically, this bird is not a Nightbird. It is a Nightingale (or whatever they called the post-Gruhn slotted-diamond fingerboard inlay version of the Nightingale -- the X-3000, I think).

Spot on, the X-3000BLU for that one. They have a Nightingale from the 80's there too:
