I guess my short answer would be YES.
You haven't really applied yourself. I know you can find that dud if you look hard enough. It's gotta be out there somewhere...taabru45 said:Thanks Avi, My 1st good guitar was a Guild D50 in the mid 60s, I've played quite a few and owned several, they were all winners in my opinion....Steffan

1962
1967
1968 (april thru august only)
1971, 72, and 73
1974 (June)
1981
1984, 85,86,87,88
1990 (january, april, september and october)
1993
1994 (june thru november)
1997
2008
2010 (march)
i have found these seem to be the best years for guild guitars...however, not for all models. For instance, in June of 1974 the dreads were exceptional, however the jumbos and 12 strings were mediocre at best. you can find my complete analysis for years and models at:

A lot of people swear by Westerly, but an owner of a very credible shop (and an excellent player) once told me that he prefers the later models; he thought the Westerly models were overbuilt, heavy, and "a little clunky". Opinion, obviously.
A lot of people say Corona made inferior guitars, but I know a guy with a Corona F50 and I'd put it up against any similar instrument made anywhere. Great guitar... and given the reputation, Coronas are often available for a relatively lower price.
The point I guess is that none of the rules and opinions and overall impressions mean squat when you're considering an individual instrument. All of these factories have produced great guitars. IMO it would be silly to decide you have to have a guitar from a certain place, or that you won't buy one because it came from another. If it feels right and sounds right and it speaks to you and you want it, who cares where it was made?
Gotta add another datapoint to those two, MY '96 D25. Lightest guitar I ever owned. I'm amazed at how durable it's been for such a featherweight. Now THAT's some "Guild magic". :wink:Ravon said:My two 1996 Westerly's heavy, overbuilt and clunky? No way. THE best year! Also, 1982 was also THE best year for Guild (my former AA and MkV)!
