I have played guitar most of my life, but I have never had an acoustic guitar. I love acoustic guitar, some of my favorite musicians play flat-tops, I just always had and played an electric. Lately, I'm thinking I need to get a decent acoustic guitar and explore that side of the spectrum.
My question is which Guild acoustic is the jack of all trades? The Telecaster is known for being able to cover all the bases, from blues to country to jazz; which Guild model is the acoustic tele?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

Mmmm. That's going to get a range of answers. But I'm going to wimp out and say it'll be either the D-40 or the D-50, weighted to the D-50.

The D-50 and D-40 are both great dreadnought choices.

But when I think of a great Guild all-arounder, I think of an orchestra-sized model like the F-40 or F-47.

I read the title and thought you were looking for something like the below:

(I know the difference between a Flying V and Telecaster. Consider this a manifestation of my warped and unusual sense of humor). That said, my observation has been that no matter what Guild people end up with, they eventually decide it does not do it all and so end up with two or more. The biggest barrier to jack of all trades seems to be fingerpicking vs. chords. Hand size and nut width may eliminate a lot of choices. I suspect playing for an audience of yourself in your home or a small crowd without amplification or a large crowd with amplification may also influence possibilities.

I think the Martin D-28 is the Telecaster of the acoustic world. Ubiquitous. Simple. Excellent. And, of course, name recognition 'cause everyone plays it.

I think a Guild D-25 would be the closest analogy. Perhaps the most widely known Guild (at least from my day).

The irony regarding this question is that Guild folks (i.e., New Hartford employees) were building Fender acoustics, one of which had a Strat-style headstock. :)

I love my D40, but knowing what I know now, if I was going from electric to acoustic I would want a cut away like a Doyle Dykes model.

I think of the D28 as one of the most overrated acoustics. But that's maybe because the ones I've played were kinda "flat".... (and I'm a big Martin fan, just not with that one)
Now if you add an "H" in front of it....whole other ball game! :)
