Lived in Houston for 10 years and made it a point to head for bluebonnet country every spring. Hard to beat those rolling hills of bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush. After 34 years on the immigrant trail, those photos almost make me miss Texas.

*We can all thank Lady Bird for a lot of that color.

Spring is upon us,
Joe

I35 south from Dallas-Fort Worth to San Antonio is boring. Hwy 281 south is much nicer if you don't mind traveling though small towns.

I gave up interstate driving a few years ago if given opportunity to take my time getting to the destination. I love traveling the backroads; eating in small town roadside diners etc. Two years ago on a drive to Colorado Springs, I wound up somewhere north of Tucumcari NM surrounded by some of the roughest, most awesomely beautiful terrain I have ever seen. It was nearing sunset on a crystal clear evening when I found a roadside rest on this backroad hiway. An artist couldn't have painted the scene I had become a small part of. I took my Guild out of the rental car, sat on a little picnic table and played 'How Great thou Art' the best I could. Shortly after getting back home I wrote 'Geezer Hiway Blues': http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_so ... ID=6834167

1st edit: Man...I just listened to that tune for the first time in a long time. Forgot how rough it is. I need to rerecord that one for sure! But the words will remain...

Haven't made it to Trois yet, Jimbo. Sure want to, though. The way work has been of late, I don't know when I'll find time for an extended weekend. I've seen lots of pics of Hamilton pool in Texas Highways etc, but have never been there. Its not that far... need to do that.

Bet you all are packing today?

Actually, we're painting the old house and repairing a few things. I hadn't had a day off of work in over 2 weeks until yesterday. There just aren't enough hours in the day I tell ya. Late last night I just said screw it and read all my unread LTG stuff.....even had a beer.

I took the jump at Hamilton pool when I was about 20 years old.....wouldn't do it again for a million bucks...........well........a million maybe. It's about 50 ft.
