Beautiful scenery, and some really excellent photography as well... thanks for posting those. I love the bluebonnets, and the shot with the trees in the fog is spectacular! I grew up next door in New Mexico and all we had was dirt.

+1 to what Joe said, that shot in the fog is spectacular! In fact, I just set it as my desktop background where it will remain until I find something cooler than that :D

I had the occasion to drive across Texas east to west in the spring of '76, and the bluebonnets in the highway median stretched for hundreds of miles, it was just the definition of "blue"

Scratch, you should go to the National Geographic website and enter that one in their ongoing photo contest...

Hey, maybe we should have an LTG photo contest

Fabulous photos! I'm jealous.

Nothin' green here, yet. Still a few piles of dirty snow lying around. Wore gloves & a hat today.

Wish I could take credit for the photography, fellas, but my picture-taking is much like my picking. Jus' enough to get by. These shots were sent to me by a photographer friend.

My wife, daughter, granddaughter and I annually pack a picnic and take off for an Easter Day trip through the Texas Hill Country. We usually drive to Kerrville, on to Fredricksburg and Lukenbach, then wind up at the LBJ Ranch where LadyBird Johnson created the most beautifully flowered landscapes imaginable. Unfortunately, in our part of the hill country this year, we're still experiencing the worst drought since 1891. A few bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrush etc., to be found, but nothing like we usually see. These particular pictures were taken about 100 miles north of where I live. Rainfall there has been close to normal...

Thanks! Beautiful shots. The only parts of Texas I have seen are San Antonio, and the DFW and Houston airports... not very representative. Hope to see more someday! D

Did you make Trois Estate Kenny?

It's really hard to describe Texas to you guys, it's a place, but an atmosphere and an attitude. I'd have to say that the thing people take the most pride in here is making people feel welcome and being friendly. The scenery, the wildlife, the people, the music, the wine, the firm belief in our values......just icing on the cake. Truly God's country...........do Kenny and I sound proud? We are :) .

Great shots Kenny......have you driven the Willow City Loop? You need to take that in when you go to Trois......it's right across the highway close to Enchanted Rock. I haven't driven the loop in wildflower season, but Mrs. West's mother claims it looks like heaaven on earth when the wildflowers bloom.

Taken last fall at Trois Estate, bout 40 miles NW as the crow flies from where Ken's shots were taken.

We're expecting rain this weekend here in south Texas so I'm guessing everything is going to green-up quickly...if the rain actually comes.

Hummingbirds have been here for about 3 weeks now, two different species & they're bickering over Red's feeder. . I hear they come from as far South as Mexico.

Gorgeous flowers!!! Also green things like trees here and there! - Not my idea of Texas: what part of the state?

Central towards south central part of the state Z. Bout an hour or so west of Austin/San Antonio. The state is very different, desolate in spots, marshy in others, desert, thick forests, coastal plains, mountains in the west, flat as a pancake in the panhandle with very few trees. Scratch lives in a very hilly and picturesque (sp?) part of the state. My end is not as hilly, but heavily forested. It's a big state.

West, thanks for the info re: your evidently very varied and interesting state; love to check it out some time, though it sounds like it could take a while! I like the West in general and have been to parts of NM, AZ NV,UT CA, CO, WY, MT,WA OR(I think that's it), but never TX .... or else, not yet.

Last time I was in Texas (1978) I went through E to W (not necessarily in exact order) by way of Galveston, Houston, Del Rio, San Antone and on into New Mexico by way of the Panhandle (visited Langtry) so I must have been near the hill country of Bandera where I'm going after Arlington, but haven't seen much N of San antone, so DFW and driving South to San Antone will be an interesting experience :D
