I have an extra guitar that wasn't getting a lot of play.
While thinking about selling it and getting a 12 fret or shorter scale guitar,
it occurred to me to try something that I have never tried before.

The guitar is now tuned 1/2 step down.
This gives me a shorter neck when I capo the guitar back up to standard tuning.
The side affect that is a bonus is that I have a lot of songs that have become a bit high for my aging vocal chords.
By leaving the guitar tuned down 1/2 step, it makes these songs more comfortable to sing.

My 12 string guitars live their lives between standard tuning and tuned down a whole step.
Never was a fan of the tone of the lowered 12 string so back to standard it would go.
Well what do you know?
The 12 string sounds very good when tuned down 1/2 step and again works well with my vocals.

Not sure how long the honeymoon will last but so far, I really like having these two guitars tuned down 1/2 step.
29er may want to try this tip before selling his guitar

I play in various open and dropped tunings. I've also dabbled in tuning down 1/2 step for the same reason you mention. I also like the lower string tension. It's likely that I will not sell this Orpheum anytime soon. Letting go of a guitar that is no longer being made and is very hard to find again is a big decision. As I said, it's a first world "problem" but sometimes I feel silly owning several fine instruments while only picking up one or two of them with any regularity.

I went back and forth over the decision to sell my Orph 12 fret Orchestra, D-70 and F-512. All lovely guitars, (hopefully new owners are enjoying), but I either ended up grabbing something different when in the room or, in the case of the Orph, treated it more like a collectable vs a guitar. They sat there unused.

Frankly I could live with just my JF-30-12 and D-40
