My lady dropped me off at our local Guild dealer this afternoon to buy some strings. She continued on to the antique (code for dusty junk) shop so I had time to plink around at my leisure.

Another new D 40 BJ was in stock, these things seem to sell just about as fast as they get them in.

I've lost track how many they have sold since they started stocking the new Guilds, four I think, the D 55 that came in with the original order several months ago is still there & a CV1C with the Dtar has been hanging around for a while now. I finally plugged the CV1C in today, not sure yet if I'd jump on the DTar band wagon.

The new D40's, IMHO, are consistently sweethearts, I like em. Retail price here in town , $1499.

Hey Jeff, What's a BJ? I still owe you a beer. I played the market with some friends this weekend in Puyallup. But I was playing with a Martin. My D70 is just too sweet to thump on like the fiddlers want me too. My Martin is a little louder, but that D70 has a sweet spot in the midrange that is not to be believed. Hope you are fine. Ever get down to Tacoma?

bleedz,

Nice to hear that D 70 is being played, it's a cool guitar.

I get up to Tacoma regularly, more accurately thru Tacoma, family mostly is up North a ways. I bought my DV 62 from Guitar Maniacs. Give me a head's up next time you're out, for sure let me know if you're playing somewhere.

BJ stands for Bluegrass Jubilee, Music 6000 in Olympia has one.
I think Guild makes two different D 40's ........ lemme see....

Nope, their website says they make d 40's in 4 configurations. I've only played the pure acoustic model, no pickups.

Holy cow, the New Forum software improved photo options.

I've had my D-40BJ several months now and just love it to death! Hat's off to the folks building such fine guitars up in Tacoma!

I have a D-40 BJ and its a great guitar-- especially for the money! They sound even better though if you yank off those clunky grover tuners and put some lighter open-back tuners on. I also put in some ebony bridge pins as the bone pins it came with made it sound a little too hard-toned for my taste.

I think in about 5 years, this guitar will be a monster (It has always been my feeling that an adirondack topped guitar needs about 5 years of playing to really start opening up). Maybe one day it will even be able to compete with my '64 D-40, which is THE monster in the house! :)

I bought two D-40 BJ's. I did sell one, but they are both amazing. The Adi is the difference in my ears. During the school year, I play the D-40 BJ about four hours a day. This is a real advantage for shortening the opening-up process. Mine is changing weekly for the better. It has the most scrumpdillyishus smell of any guitar I have owned. OOOOOO....AHHHHHH.

I am the fortunate person who bought Glen's (grantgsc) Tacoma D40BJ. It is great player and as he has said is getting better. I play in a Bluegrass band and this guitar really holds it's own against guitars that cost three times as much. It has the DTar system which is also super.
By the way, dealing with Glen was a pleasure. He is a great man to do business with. Thanks again Glen !!

I've had my used/new to me D40 BJ only two days and it's really growing on me. I've played it enough to hear it opening up already. It has those sought after bell like tones that I like so much. It strikes me as a "working man's guitar" in that it is very plain but efficient. A blue collar special, as it were. This thing is all about tone and volume. This is my first adi topped guitar and I can tell the difference from my sitkas. And what a steal at the going used prices!! Guild really has a winner in this one, too bad (or maybe not) more people haven't discovered them yet. Now if you'll excuse me I must get back to playing!

Thanks for the comments Lougar. I try to be a nice guy. I play the D40BJ I now own (the 2nd one!) everyday at school. It is just plain excellent. :D By the way, if any of you ever have an occasion to need a Saturn...Call Mr. Lougar. He will set you up. He was a pleasure to deal with on the sale of my guitar.
