I had to cut a piece of wood trim and got careless for a split-second - but that is all it took... trip to the ER and a shorter index finger on my right hand...

fortunately I play righty, so it will only affect holding a pick. I may superglue a pick to a thimble.

I don't really use my index finger to hold a pick, you might find it works fine. Or, a thumb pick!

Right now, though, focus on healing up!

So sorry to hear about your mishap.

A workplace safety-training program that I've participated in for awhile advises trainees to pause before undertaking a new task (not just at work, could also be at home), and briefly consider what could go wrong. That brief pause gives you a chance to think about a way to mitigate the risk.

Yikes! Always a fear of mine when using knives and saws. Hope you make a speedy recovery.

A guitar player shouldn't be in the same room as a table saw, maybe that's the reason I prefer my old Craftsman radial arm saw.

Already knew what this was going to be about just reading the ad title...

I've personally seen a fella with decades of experience on a table saw hurt himself right in front of me. They are dangerous as h.

Godspeed on your recovery and stay the h away from that saw.

Wood work can be so dangerous - unpredictable at times even when you are careful. Quick recovery for you is my wish.

It didn’t stop Billy Joe Shaver who I believe had 3 digits shortened by a saw blade. I hope that you have a speedy recovery.

The stupid thing was I cut the piece of wood I needed with no problem. We replaced our wooded front porch with a precast concrete one and I needed a piece of trim under the front door. I was EXTREMELY careful. That went fine. Then I realized the two columns were a little short for the new porch so I decided to cut a few shims. I cut what I needed and had one small piece left so I decided to cut it in half for more shims if I needed them... BIG Mistake!

I have come close to doing that a number of times. Lost some skin, but never a finger. It usually happens late in the day when I get tired and a little careless.

I am learning to stop before I get to that point.

Ooooooooo.........Dang!

........I'm in the middle of some home renovation projects right, and doing a lot of cutting.......and like Neal said, I have to learn to stop when I start getting the least bit tired! Far to many close calls!

So glad it wasn't worse for ya, Gib!

I am so careful with my fingers to the point of it being an obsession. At this point in my life they are primarily used for picking stringed instruments. I'm not a wood worker, but I do cook a lot and I hate dull knives, so I use them with extreme caution!
