I have the "Japanese heads" as shown on page 41 of Hans' book on my 1967 T100D. However, when I look at pictures of other T100Ds from similar years, on Ebay, gbase, this board, wherever, I have yet to see one with those tuners.

Does this mean they are often replaced? Or are they common and I have just not seen them? Mine work very well, so I'm not thinking of replacing them, just wondering.

Check the more images tab on this listing. The tuners no longer have the covers on them, but they look to be the same design of which you speak. I would guess if you don't mind extra screw holes, replacing them would be a wise move. Just the opposite if you're talking original spec integrity.

Forget the url...

There's a T100 on ebay now with those tuners, which the seller thinks are non original, but they almost certainly are original. I've seen at least a half dozen T100s with those tuners on ebay in the last year.

Clarification: I am talking about the seeming rarity of the "Japanese" tuners on the *left* side of the bottom of p. 41 of Hans' book.

Sorry walrus,

Didn't notice the thread about the tuners.
The enclosed Japanese tuners (as pictured on page 41 of The Guild Guitar Book are kind of rare on T-100(D) models. They were mostly used on single cutaway Starfires. T-100(D)s usually have the individual open Japanese tuners like the ones pictured in this photo.

Like I mentioned many times before, nothing was written in stone at Guild and it would not be unusual for them to use different hardware from what was specified or pictured in the catalog.

The tuners on the '65 T-100D on eBay are not original. They were replaced at a later date.

Hope this answers your question.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Hi Hans - here's photos of my 1967 T100D, and the tuners I'm asking about. Again, it seems to me I rarely see these tuners, I guess it is possible they are not original, but they seem to be the ones on the left side of p. 41 of your book. Thanks again!

By the way, one set of screws on the tuners is definitely not original (the tuner screws on the left middle tuner in the photo).

Hello walrus,

Those look like the original tuners to me, but like I said before, you usually see them on Starfires.
The Models T-100(D) usually had the tuners as pictured in the photo posted by danerectal.
These kind of things would happen a lot at Guild. I don't think that anybody would complain if they would get better tuners than pictured/specified in the catalog.

Sincerely,

Of course, now that I claim the tuners on my T100D are "rare", up pops one on eBay with the same tuners. Go figure... walrus

Hey Walrus,

The ones on the guitar that you posted are the 'open' type; they are the usual ones on a T-100(D). You have the enclosed version and those are pretty rare on a T-100(D).
