Their "biz casual" look is pretty forced. Looks like they had a tie on, and took it off! All white and light blue shirts - they all NEED a nice tie!!

Personally, one of my goals in life is to never wear a tie again. Yeah, I know, I don't have really big goals.

For an equity firm like this, they look out of place without a tie, and a few even look quite lost. These kind of companies often have a strict dress code, although not as strict as in the past.

I like your simple goals! I wear a tie less and less, I just hope I can remember how to tie it if I need to wear one.

I cannot remember the last time I wore a tie.
I know I do not currently have one in my closet.

I'm not going to identify the company, and they are investment managers and not venture capitalists but these folks don't need ties. I will not identify which one(s?) are LTG Members.

In my experience investment firms never improve anything but their own bottom lines, and they will do so at any cost.

Of course, I tend to have an embittered grouchy outlook on such things, but that's only because I've seen it happen 100 times.

I am always happy to be proven wrong.
I hear ya and been there done that. It always changes and they always gut the fish.

Nice! They clearly are comfortable in their outfits! Much smaller firm probably, and I wonder if the guy in the purple shirt (an LTGer? a Prince fan?) would get a job at Providence Equity. Since they all are dressed alike at Providence - really similar, see photo - he will stand out like John DeLorean at General Motors (bonus points if you get that reference).

I'm generalizing of course, as we all are, but you would be surprised at the things my students have told me over the years about dress codes at financial firms in particular. Dress codes are still an issue today. Or this - just this past December, I had a Finance senior tell me that at the end of his interview with HR (he was professionally dressed in a suit and tie), the HR person gave him a "heads up" that he should shave his beard off before his interview with the VP of Finance the next day, as he expected all his employees to be clean shaven. Wow.

And then there's these guys who wouldn't even shave their guitars

And let's face it, would you buy a used guitar from this man?

But I do miss being able to show off my tie collection.

Yes, I have a few Beatles ties and Garcia ties I wear to class (among others), but only in the cold weather - they keep my neck warm! And, if I do say so, I look rather good in them... 😉

However, no ties lately as I am teaching remotely to stay safe.

10 bonus points for the DeLorean knowledge, Al. They will be applied as soon as I figure out what to apply them to. I have my vintage paperback copy of "On a Clear Day You Can See General Motors" in my office, but I haven't been there in 16 months...

From "the usual source": "At a time when business executives were typically conservative, low-key individuals in three-piece suits, DeLorean wore long sideburns and unbuttoned shirts."

And he needed a haircut and his shirt collars were too flashy.

I do not know much about Sweetwater, I gather they are OK guitar-stuff sellers, and there are concerns about them turning to Muddywater. Too bad! Anyway, we do not have them over here. I'm glad to learn about Jerry Garcia's ties . I like ties for their variety of material/designs.I have never seen the point in wearing one. Kinda makes me feel submissive and ill-at-ease.I'd rather wear a penis-case at "social gatherings", if one has to dress formal. Did Jerry Garcia design one?Is it stuffed with Jerry Garcia's ice-cream? Enough of that, let's hear Bow-tie Daddy!

Zoom meetings?

Yes. Not the same as F2F, but much better than an asynchronous on-line class, particularly for this age group. It's a lot of work, but it can be done effectively.

I don't know... after visiting the Sweetwater campus a few months back, I'd say Chuck Surak has a history of making pretty good business decisions and that Sweetwater will be solid for a long time to come. I wouldn't start to worry unless I heard something like - as a result of this development - they'd suddenly decided to open "bricks & mortar" locations all over the US.:ROFLMAO:

Actually he did all the original designs. They've been released in numbered "collections" ever since '92 but not all of 'em are based on his artwork, and there's actually 2 makers. Only Stonehenge used Jerry's art, the other ones drew off Grateful Dead imagery, capsule history here:

I still wear ties and bow ties to work, but our office no longer pushes a "professional" dress code. Good riddance to that! The only other person in my company who wears a tie or bow tie to work is one of the younger girls.

I'm not a Sweatwater customer due to past experiences, but whenever businesses like this are bought out, it usually means new rules and less flexibility. Good luck to those of you who shop there.

I used Sweetwater for my M-75 Aristocrat purchase just this week and the experience was great.

They were helpful, honest, gave me a discount and looked to do whatever they could. This is in stark contrast with my Reverb experience.

Wish I could have done a F2F transaction, but, the little guitar was no where to be found in my neck of the woods.

I'll see how the set-up and such is when the M-75 arrives, but, based on the experience thus far, I will likely be using them in the future.

I agree with comments posted above. I too have seen many firms sell to someone that wants to rape the business. My firm works for banks and have seen many great community banks swallowed up by major banks with the result being the loss of personal service. Sweetwater has been so wonderfully developed that it's tough to see how a new owner can improve the outstanding service Sweetwater is known for. Let's just hope that they aren't turned into another Guitar Center, the Walmart of music stores. Very often, in the case or acquisitions, key staff members are engaged to offer guidance. My Sweetwater adviser is Chris Goldbach, and he is fantastic to work with!!
