Regarding those cool Gabojo pickups, the price to USA should be less the VAT (tax), so less than 200 Euros for the set.

I just put a set in my cart:

193.55 Euro
7.66 Euro flat-rate shipping

Total 201.21 Euro which is according to Google is $214.74 USD shipped for the pair.

I'm tempted to buy a pair but I know they'll end up in my pickup drawer until I get to them.

They have a set with white tops that fits for soapbar P-90s. If they made a set the fits dogear P-90, I'd put a set in my X-500T. That would be the bomb!

Great writeup and photos on the pickup swap! Not only does it look so much better than the original but, more importantly, you like the sound better. Win, win!

Same thing on the original Surfliner
The original Surfliner had LB-1. Yes, even the LB-1 looks out of place, but if the Deluxe had that pickup I would have been happy because it has a bright and chimey sound. The HB-2 is simply too dark in contrast to the Aerodynes, though I'm sure there are a lot of players who would find it useable.

Oh, weird! I didn't know that. Thanks, GG. So, on my original one, could I do the same pickup swap that you did or wouldn't that work?

It would not be a drop-in fit because the LB-1 is a mini-humbucker and the Surf 90 is the same size as a full-size humbucker. But, it would be possible if you enlarged the pickup cutout in the pickguard (probably a pain in the butt to do). I think the LB-1 is a better match for the Aerodynes and I'm not sure the improvement (which is subjective) with the Surf 90 would be all that great.

Spending my teenage years in Redondo Beach, surf instrumentals were required listening. This guy has a surf band and I watch his videos from time to time. He reviewed the original Surfliner before and liked it but couldn't keep it without a vibrato. He got the deluxe version when they finally came out and made these two videos:

The second video is his work on the trem and his coil split attempt on the HB-2. I think GG's solution would appeal to him.
I'm hoping he gets around to putting in slide switches. I have one of the original models and like the LB-1 but I think it needs
a Hagstrom bridge and Tremar!

I believe he concluded that it is possible but he f###ed it up...
Yes I watched the video a few weeks ago and that's exactly the case. It worked, but he wired it backward and then he was going to have to redo the wiring. But he was able to get the split to work

So, I contacted Gabojo about these pickups. Unfortunately, due to parts availability, he can't make a set of them (only the bridge pu). Oh well.
