Looks to be from the late 70's - Crosby looks like he was in his "drug-induced, ready to go to jail" phase. Stills plays that song so "percussively" on the guitar, really amazing!

Great link!

Yes, Dr. Stills was quite proficient at his alternate tunings. Not only that, his alternate tunings were alternate's of other folks "basic" alternate tunings. The beauty of it is- if you have ever spent hours playing any of the multiplicity of these tunings that are out there, you get a whole new feel for the tone of the guitar. Also guess what? the chords are all different positions from the usual. All I can say is Stephen Stills was certainly on the cutting edge, and also brought out the best in doing it!

Interesting to watch in this clip of Suite JBE is the individual stage presence of David Crosby compared to that of Graham Nash. Crosby appears to be near nap time while Nash is bouncing all over the place....barefoot! All this while Stills does what does/did so well.

Don't know that "interesting" sums it up well enough, but I think you get my drift.
Still, that inimitable CSN sound. ;)

I've seen CSN recently, Nash still jumps around and Crosby is still standing still. Two different reasons for Crosby's behavior then and now, though!

Nice clip of "Treetop Flyer"! Can we also agree Stills has one of the greatest bluesy rock n' roll voices?

My first post on the new forum couldn't have been a better one thanks for the great post Joe!
I love Stephen....he is my favorite acoustic player. What a voice and a magician on the guitar.
