So this was a fun discovery! Up in my Youtube feed pops this review by Stuart Day:

This is my "signature" Savoy 150A -- why do I call it that? Check out the B-Roll at 1:50, and pay attention to the 12th fret -- that's my signature there on the Mother of Pearl inlay!

Why would I do such a thing to a Guild!?! Because, what Stuart does not say in his review, was I had him change the fret radius from 9 1/2" to 15" and change the frets to Jumbos to adjust for the loss of grip I have in my left hand (due to thumb tendonitis). I decided that when I had these changes made, I was never going to sell this guitar, so, might as well lean into it. It's my guitar now -- forever -- so I signed it.

The setup is great, and the Jumbo frets took a little getting used to, but I am really liking them now.

BTW, I would say that Stuart's assessment/review of the guitar is pretty much spot on. Although I run it through a Mesa Boogie Rosette Amp, which allows me to control the tone, (and it also does a good job of keeping the lighter sound of the Savoy's acoustic properties). I also added a Strymon Flint Trem that thickens the sound so it can stand alone better when using it as a solo accompaniment instrument...

So, I overcome the guitar's shortcomings with post add-ons. But it would be nice if it had a tone knob (I think the 2021s do) and it should probably have a better straight acoustic sound than it does.

Anyway, I had no idea Stuart did this. But it was cool to see it! I thought I would share it.

So, adding a tone control to the pickguard should have been easy and cheap for this guy. Why not just do it now?
I'm confused.

The first generation had the control knob on top of the pickguard, and the second generation has two hidden wheels. You probably could add one such hidden potentiometer under the first generation pickguard as well.

This was the first generation "harness":

Also, you can make tone adjustments with the amp. Unless you're playing through a tweed Champ.
Right. I have plenty of tone control in the MESA Boogie Rosette 300. I guess the only downside is that a tone knob at the guitar gives you an easier adjustment between songs, if you change tone for each song.

He didn't do it, because I didn't ask him to (meaning I didn't pay him to). His comments on the guitar was just he wished it came with one. (which, I think, it now does.) It's a fair point that I have seen a lot of reviewers make.

Wonder why they took it away? (BTW, that harness is just the way it is now right? Not the harness with the tone control?)

I guess because two round knobs on the pickguard are a bit too much, so they moved them under the guard. For volume it is certainly better on top as it was in the past. That harness is the first generation one, like on your guitar. Guild has not shown a replacement harness for the volume and tone control version, also I have not seen any pictures yet how the pots look like on the new version.

Personally, I'd prefer the earlier version with the big vintage-style transparent drum knob. I LOVE those knobs!
