I thought that would get your attention I have noticed a few references to removing the finish on a guitar, most recently mario's F212 project. As he says using most removers will destroy the binding. My son was looking for a paint remover for cleaning old paint off his Warhammer models but would not destroy them as they are mostly plastic. We found this stuff called RemovAll 220. It's like a pink gooey gunk BUT it does work! Takes a while, but melts the paint and leaves the plastic alone. It is water based and does not have all the nasty smell of traditional paint stripper. It was expensive but as it is made in Canada it may be less in the USA. It claims to be able to remove most finishes including urethane which is pretty close to polyurethane. I have not used it on a finish of this type. The only time I have had to remove a poly finish was on a Fender USA Mustang bass where the finish had lifted and was coming off in brittle chunks. I used Nitromors on this as there was no plastic involved.
I can not say if this will work on a GAD poly finish but it would be worth a try.
RemovALL 220 made by Napier in Canada. Comes in 4 liter plastic buckets.
If I do use it on poly I will let you know how it went.
All the best, Steve.
