A friend of mine sold his acoustic and gave me three sets of Ernie Ball Aluminum Bronze med-lights. He loved them and sang their praises to me.

I put a set on my guitar this weekend. These strings are awesome: LOUD, very nice highs, clear mids, LOUD, excellent bass response and clarity without getting muddy, LOUD, and very nicely balanced and easy to play. And they are really LOUD. Great for finger picking or flat strumming. Very nice projection and boy are they LOUD.

Has anyone tried them?

If I should have posted this in the Strings section please feel free to move it.

There's been a thread on them over on AGF, most people like them, some compared them to DR Sunbeams. I've thought about trying them on one of my guitars. I'm having my Pawless and the F-512 set up this week, maybe I'll try them on one of them. I don't see any for 12, so if I do, it will be on the Pawless.

Were they loud or not? Come on man, tell us.

I'll have to give some a try the next time I buy some strings. I have also been wanting the give the Monel strings a try...

I've been using them for about a month. Lights on the GAD30 and medium/light on a Martin D35. Initially, they don't sound great - sort of jarring - but after about a day, they develop a nice "jangly" tone as they settle in. The strings are a lot like DR Sunbeams in tone, to my ears at least. What I really like about them are the feel. They are bouncy, elastic strings that are fun to play fingerstyle on (definitely lower tension). Also, they have held up very well over the month. I believe they still sound good (but that is so subjective).

Overall, they have been a good match for the GAD 30 which is seems to be very picky about what strings match well with it. I am going to try the medium lights on that guitar when I get a new set. The martin is not as picky - you can put just about anything on it and it sounds good.

Bottom line - will I buy again? Yes.

i take it they intonate well on your guitars? reason i ask is ive had strings that when tuned with tuner, piano, harmonica, etc, just will not sound in tune when chording.
the latest victem is unfortunately a favorite of mine, soundwise; GHS pb lts. luv the tone, not the out-o'tune sound i get (unless i tune it to itself 'sweetened' but then its out with my harp player :( )
maybe its the flexability of the string, i dont know.
i really would like to know

The word LOUD is used frequently, yes, but in between the words "LOUD" was a fairly good report of Yoko's findings. Don't let the word LOUD throw you off. He actually gave a fairly good account of the strings.

I just posted a full, comprehensive review in the STRINGS section of this forum.

I bought 4 sets, 2 lights and 2 mediums. I put the mediums on my Taylor DN4 lefty and it turned into more of a cannon than it was before. WOW! I'm a flatpickin' fool!! LOUD and CLEAR, great strings. I'm using light gauge on my dear ole' '74 Guild D-40 lefty and as soon as the D'Addario's go flat, I'm puttin' a set of the light gauge on her. She has always been a cannon, maybe she'll be be a Battleship with them on.
I bought mine from Strings and Beyond, fast shipping and no stinkin' Ohio tax!!

I put some on my D-50 and they sounded good but turned my fingertips black. I went back to Martin FX Phosphor Bronze and get the same tone and comparable volume. They do sound good but the black finger tips are a non-starter for me.
