Hello harptailpiece,

The first Starfire IV that I've seen had a 1980 serial number. It seems like there was some sort of transition period but it might also have a lot to do with the way the 'superstructures' for guitars are stored before they are finished in 'final assembly'. I think the change took place during 1981 although you will find an occasional SF-4 with harp tailpiece from a later date.
