The part of a fungus/mold that you see is basically the 'flower/bloom' portion. The 'roots' go much deeper. That's why it's so hard to remove.
Right. Why it keeps coming back. And the blooms might actually be releasing spores (its' what they're there for) which "re-colonize". The spores are incredibly tough. Kind of like bullet-proof eggs.
SE Asian mold spores might even have extra-terrestrial origins.

Well, at least it wasn't attacked by a loose strain of the stuff they developed in Germany to make these go away:

The bioengineered bacteria was made to dispose of Trabbies and will reportedly eat all the plastic body panels in around 20 days.

I hope you find a solution to your problem Marcellis. My only suggestion would be a half hour of direct sunlight every day.

I dunno... I thought it might be some sort of German variation on the Dalek.

The doctor's Daleks don't dance.
How did that get by me; watching too much My Favorite Martian?
Hey we can't be there to guide you all the time.
That's what Bixaholics Anonymous is for.
They cure you by running a continuous loop of every episode of "The Courtship of Eddy's Father".

Which is why waterboarding was so un-necessary.

I'm sure the people who hold the royalty rights to 'Courtship of ..', 'Petticoat Junction', and few other mid-60s who-could-forgets would have been proud to have their materials used to grind away the sanity of the bad guys.

Look what happened to us

Much like the biblical Samson, long hair cured us of a host of evils.
Not to say it didn't come with it's own host of NEW evils... :D

Glad to see this thread is going places.

So is the fungus from Planet X.

I took the D60 out of its case today, just to make sure it's still OK (the fungus).
The newborns are doing quite well - small but growing fast.

I'm an old Dr. Who fan BTW. (I'm old and I'm a Dr. Who fan).

I can't check in much to LTG. First I need a proxy server.
Lately, I've been surfing on the iPad and it gives me problems
(via the proxy) on LTG.

But I'll report on the fungus from time-to-time.

This thread is going so many places, I got flat-out confused there for a while. As for your fungus, did you use any bleach on it yet? I think that was the general consensus wasn't it? I'll be awaiting your FUNGUS UPDATE. Never thought I'd be typing such a thing.... Tom in Vegas

I put a piece of new and old celluloid binding in bleach and all it does is make it look like underwear and smell like a pool.

Just use a couple drops on a Q-Tip.

Well, I tried bleach. No dice. It grew back stronger & bigger than before.

I took it to my luthier. If he can't help, I may have to bring it to NASA.

Recent pics.

Without going through all the posts,
could this be coming from the case?
Does the mold reappear if the guitar is cleaned and then left out of the case?
Just a thought.

Golly, marcellis, sorry to hear that the fungus came back. I can't remember if we talked about this and I'm too lazy to look back through the INSANITY of this thread, but you keep this guitar in the case, yes? Any chance you could keep it on a stand where air could circulate more freely? Everything I've read about high humidity areas suggests that the guitar be on a stand where air can circulate freely. Just a thought.... maybe NASA can help. Locking mold of any type up in a box seems like a bad idea.....

Oh HAAAAA HAAAAA!! I see TMG had the same idea.... it might be a good one.

No. It is almost never in its case. It's my bed-side guitar. I record w/it now & then.

Yes. The Fungus from Outer Space always returns. And it's growing to areas
of the binding that were not bumped - perfectly healthy areas.

It must be mutating.

Not yet.

I seriously doubt my luthier can stop the alien spores from spreading.

I guess I need to try bleach, followed by peroxide.

The bleach was a disappointment though. Maybe it needs several applications, like someone said.
But it's spreading - not retreating.
